Sleeved & Lasik surgery close together or wait?

Recommended Posts

I'm having my sleeve on Sept 30th. Today I had my Lasik consultation and they scheduled me for the procedure on October 11th. Has anyone had major visual changes due to their large weight losses? I'm wondering if I should wait a while on the Lasik. Any thoughts or experiences?

I had a period early on in life when I miscarried at 4 months. The weight gain and loss caused huge eye changes. The doctor told me that people don't think about weight loss causing visual changes but in fact it does due to fat around the eyes (ewww!) . Last time I lost weight my eyes changed then too.

I would delay the LASIK. I know I was an exception but my LASIK was extremely painful and it was days I'd great discomfort. On the off chance that happens to you, you may not want to combine it with VSG recovery.

Oh and I still wear glasses after the LASIK :P much better than before though

If you are a diabetic, you should definitely wait. After surgery your blood sugar will normalize and your medications will be tapered down, and during that time you can definitely have changes in vision. If you are not a diabetic and have had no changes in your vision lately, you should be fine, but you will still be very sore only 12 days out from surgery and you have to get on and off the lasik machine so that might be tricky. I would say wait until you are at least four weeks post op so that you are fully healed and no longer sore. When I had lasik I was really uncomfortable and dizzy for a few days until I got used to my new eyes, so give yourself time to heal from one procedure before you do another one :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
