Can't Break This Stall

Recommended Posts

I'm coming up on 6 months and I've only lost 30 pounds. That would be great, except the first 20 came off in the first 2 months and the next 5 came off in month 3 and 4. I haven't lost a pound in two months. I work out five days a week. I take in about 1200 calories a day. Every week I try to break things up by having a cheat day. I'll also try to have days where I only take in about 900 to 1000 calories to see if I can make the scale budge (I weigh every morning before I eat). Inches were coming off at first, but now even those have slowed drastically. This week I didn't lose any inches at all (I measure waist, bust, hips, tummy, arms, and legs every Friday morning). I started at 231 and am about 201 (on a weekly basis my weight fluctuates between 205 and 201). I'm so tired and frustrated and worried that I'm going to be stuck here forever. Has anyone experienced this kind of stall? If so, how did you break it? My nut hasn't been particularly helpful.

What do you do in your workouts? Besides working out...what is your lifestyle like?

Hi, I will be 4 months out on 9/14, but my doc and NUT said to keep my calories around 800-900, not to go over that, always Protein first, then vegg, I work out 7 days a week mostly walking with 3 days strength training. I've lost 44lbs so far, did your doc say to go up to 1200 cal when you got to 6 months? Maybe try staying a little lower in cals for a couple of weeks might budge the scale, just a thought.

Have you tried working out your percentage loss, that figure might be more pleasing eg if you want to lose 60lb and you have lost 30 then you are 50 per cent there.

Be very careful about comparing yourself to others on here who seem to lose vast amounts very quickly, very often you don't know start weights and people's circumstances etc.

I am a slow loser by my six month I had lost 56 percent of what I want to lose (100lb), now at 17 months I am at 87 percent, slow but sure. Have you been a member of WW or any other slimming club and did you lose weight fast there or was you one of the slow ones? Me I was slow and I used to get quietly upset when others who joined the same week seemed to be streaks ahead within a short time. When I had this surgery I knew that the weight loss was for me and I could not spend all the time comparing myself to others.

So take a deep breath, do the calculations, measure yourself or try on a piece of clothing you had at the beginning of your journey and see how far you have come. Track diligently, keep Protein high and make sure you get in your liquids.< /p>

Best wishes.

Ok this is my story I was sleeved Jan 24,2013 I started out at 264,and i'm now 173,after a month stall,i just loss a pound, they say stalls would happen,i don't count my calories,i try to eat every two hour, because i'm only able to eat small amounts of food.if you are exercising that much make sure you are eating enough calories to burn off I only exercise three days a week, because I know my stomach can not hold that much food, so I don't have much to burn up,so be very mindful on that, after a month stall I was excited to see the scale move again,i only drink Water no diet drinks, no fruit juices,no bread..no sweets, every now and than I may take a bite of something sweet, and than i'm happy, lol,, I know it gets hard, but hang in there, you will start losing again and take that scale and put it up,and take it out in three weeks again, don't do that to your self :)

My NUT said that I would be consuming 1200 calories once I got to my goal weight. I will be 6 months out on the 18th. of September and so far I have lost 85.5 lbs so I have 49 more to go. I eat between 700-800 calories a day and workout a minimum of 3 days a week. Maybe you are consuming to many calories.

Thank you all for the helpful responses! When I work out, I do three days of weights at the gym and an hour long hike/jog twice a week. The only thing I drink is Water and my Protein is good. I get about 80+ grams per day. I am definitely considering bringing my calories down and possibly backing up a little on the exercise too.

Go back to the basics and stay around 800 calories

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
