How many calories do you consume a day?

Recommended Posts

Almost 6 months out and 800-1000 a day. I would have to really go out of my way to eat a number of calories that would worry me, so instead I focus on Water, Protein, and carbs in that order. If I'm getting enough water and protein carbs will almost never be an issue, and if I'm keeping my carbs in check too, I couldn't care less about calories; the weight WILL come off.

I am 12 weeks out and eat between 600 - 800 calories a day. I don't adjust for exercise calories' date=' as my RD and exercise physiologist advised me not to. They said that most people (and apps such as MFP) overestimate the calories burned, plus exercise may even suppress your metabolic rate.

I am nearly 4 month out and my NUT has me on net 1,200 calories a day. And I am still losing at the rate if 1-3 lbs a week. I'm 5'11" and built like a linebacker. Down 57 lbs now.

I have noticed that my weight loss has slowed the closer I get to goal (23 lbs from goal now). I appreciate the article you posted about exercise not actually helping you lose weight.

On exercise days, I eat a bit more because I think "I'm entitled." Dangerous thinking for me as I can take anything and overdo it. Gotta watch those entitlements. I can sneak up to an extra 200-300 calories in on exercise days. Which is still 1/3 of what I was eating before my sleeve. But eating because I am entitled is not the same as eating because I am hungry.

It doesn't say that exercise suppresses metabolic rate - it says that weight loss does. The study just found that exercise does not do as much to keep your metabolic rate up in the face of weight loss as was previously thought.

I totally agree, I never count anything....I have it set at sedentary!!! I'm serious, any movement, exercise, walking up and down stairs and parking waaaaay out in the parking lots are all icing on the cake!!!! MFP over estimates the calories burned and it underestimates Protein needed. I err on the side of caution. NO additional calories eaten to make up for anything!! Good advice!!!

I am nearly 2 weeks out and struggling to get 500 a day, more like high 300s a couple of days, mid 400s..The doctor's office didn't really give me a target range..so, like you, I'm interested as to what I should be taking in at this point.

Same here! About 400 a day. I feel okay, though, been doing a lot of walking and even went to the gym this morning and rode the exercise bike.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
