Hello, I'm 12 weeks out and have lost 57lbs :) But, I have a lot of pain. Not from the surgery but back and knee and hip . I really miss my NSAIDs !!!! Any suggestions for pain management ? Don't want to rely on narcotics . I have tramadol but don't take it unless really bad . Thanks in advance for your replies .

Are you not supposed to use NSAIDS anymore? My doctor said it was fine once I was able to swallow pills again (after four weeks of crushing).

As soon as I was able to eat solid foods (3 weeks out) I was allowed to start taking my Advil for headaches.

I thought that was only for Gastric Bypass. I could be wrong of course.

I am back on my NSAIDs ( Motrin 800 mg 1-2 tabs per day) d/t my extreme hip pain and back pain my surgeon said if I need it once I got onto drinking shakes good and puréed food wich was about 2 weeks post op I could start taking liquid Motrin then about 1 week later I was back on the 800 tabs they just worry about it laying on the stomach lining and causing a ulcer with nothing in your gut. So every. Morning with my big Protein Shake I take my Motrin wich I sip over a 1-2 hrs because it is about 16 oz then in evening I take with my dinner and drink. M.d is fine with that I would stress to your surgeon and see if it really is o.k to take for your pain. Best of luck I know how bad that pain is. :)

I took it when I got my period because I always end up in the fetal position that time of the month! Once in a while it should be okay...just try not to do it all the time :) But, of course, check with your doc.

I miss my NSAIDs something fierce! But they're a big no no because of the bleeding ulcer risk. If our sleeve gets an ulcer we're screwed not much to work with at all.

But man once a month I seriously weigh the pros and cons lol

As far as pain goes, ice and heat therapy.

Oh, I miss them too. My doc said Tylenol only. The 8 hour Arthritis Tylenol works somewhat, but not as well as Advil.

I should clarify, all surgeons have different rules. Most say no to NSAIDs for all types of Bariatric surgeries due to the risk of ulcers. Same as smoking. Every doctor is different, and ultimately it's your decision. We're adults, we get to do cool stuff like that ;) I know the risks of Advil, ibuprofen, etc. I used to take 4 ibuprofen at least 5 times a week. (Fibro, arthritis, chronic tendonitis, scoliosis, plantar fasciitis, and cramps when it's that time.) I'm now on heavy narcotics because of the no NSAID thing. But since surgery (10 months ago) I've taken 2 ibuprofen a handful of times when nothing else works. Like I said, we're grown ups. We know the risks and its our choice :)
