How bad was it? Would you do it again?

Recommended Posts

I would do it again in a heartbeat! And I'm the biggest baby on the planet when it comes to bee stings, paper cuts, stubbing my toe, etc. I can't handle pain of any kind. And this was worth everything to me. If the doctor had told me that I needed to shave my head just to get this surgery, I would've done that too. Good luck!

Pain was horrible! it lasted about 2 days after surgery... I cried because I was so frustrated :( I was mad because I had cause all that pain by my own choice .... But now almost 4 months out I would do it again in a heartbeat I love my sleeve :) its the best accomplishment so far :)

I am 7 weeks post-op and would definitely do it again. I have had previous abdominal surgeries for 2 c-sections, a fibroid surgery, and a hernia repair and the sleeve was by far the easiest recovery. There was some pain, and I took my meds for it. I didn't try to be tough and go without, and I only needed meds for a week. After that, it was the fatigue as I adjusted to my new intake that was tough, but even that was gone around a month out.

I'm a little over 4 weeks post op & I have had no pain at all. My surgeon was amazing. The 1st 2 weeks were so hard. The head hunger about killed me.

After the first week or so, the pain was mostly a memory. By week 5, I took my family to great wolf lodge Water park and did every single ride they had. I am a little over one year out. Almost all my loss was in the first 7 months and I have maintained my 183 lb loss since January. It's the little things that you don't think about that make it worth it. Tying your shoes without holding your breath? Taking the stairs because you don't want to wait for the elevator? Not having to ask for a table instead of a booth? Actually enjoying shopping for new clothes? Looking in the mirror and not thinking "I don't look too bad today"? It's nice to feel like a normal person for a change. Good luck on your journey.

I would do this again for sure! No regrets! Best decision ever. The surgery pain was temporary but now I can look forward to permanent weight loss. I am so happy now that I am not always thinking about food!!! So happy!! I am 5 weeks post surgery and down 25 pounds. I wish I didn't wait until I was 33 to do this. Wish I did it sooner!

I may be a lucky case, but I had ZERO pain. From the second I woke up in recovery, I never felt pain. I never needed pain meds or a pain pump in the hospital, I walked immediately, and had very little gas. My only complaint was how dryyyyyy my mouth was! And the leak test drink was gross, but your so thirsty at that point that you won't even care lol!

I'm 9 weeks out and 55.8lbs down!! :)

Best decision ever!

I only took my meds for 3 days my only regret is I did not do it sooner years ago. Yes I still had some pain but was able to deal with it. I am entering my 9th week out and down 46 lbs would definitely do it again. I have been lucky thus far no nausea and only threw up 1x and was not much. The only thing I really suffered was diarrhea for a week.

I was one of the fortunate ones - I really didn't have much pain' date=' hardly any gas pain, was able to tolerate liquids and have had no problems with any food. I only took the pain killers at night after the first day or two to help me fall asleep.[/quote']

I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and like VSGayle, I was fortunate. My pain and gas was minimal. I took pain meds for about 2-3 days once i got home. I initially had problems those first few days with getting liquids and Protein in, but once I had some Protein on day 4, I felt more like my old self. By 4 days post op I was walking a mile and from day 7 to now, I've walked 2 miles a day. I was driving and performing small errands by day 5-6 and felt a little better every day. Not everyone's experience is the same, but we all don't have horror stories. I had a "what did i do" moment the day of my surgery, but haven't regretted it since.

I'm a little over two weeks from my surgery date and I'm reading a lot of stories about people in pain. How bad was your pain? How bad was the post-surgery diet? Is your weight loss worth what you've gone through to get to it? Would you do it all over again if you had the chance?

I never used any pain meds once I left the hospital, had zero pain when I got home, only fatigue and weakness for a while. Best thing I have ever done for myself!!!! Would do it again 1,000 times :)

Good luck!!!!! It changes your life in such a positive way!!!!

I'll tell you what my Doctor sister told me when i was scared of the pain before my band. She said the pain is going to be a whole lot less than the pain of your first heart attack if you don't do something about your weight. For me that all brought it into perspective.

I hurt, but that's what the pain meds are for. Tried to cut back on the second day, that was a mistake. Finally just took them for about a week, and then started cutting back. Remember though I had complications with my lapband removal, so I had more pain than most. Just don't be a hero and take the meds if you need them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
