How bad was it? Would you do it again?

Recommended Posts

Yes would do it again!!! A lifetime of good health, and new adventures is sooooooo much more to me than the couple days of pain. No regrets here!!

I'd definitely do it again. Whatever pain/discomfort I had is so far in the rear view I barely remember it.

I'm another one, no pain......some soreness....I took two doses of painkiller at night at the hospital, because they were strongly encouraged LOL I have not taken the pain meds they sent me home with. I was walking in the recovery room......still bleary eyed from the anesthesia, didn't care....had 2 nurses on either side as I wabbled around recovery a few times while waiting for a hospital room.

I'm 4 weeks out, lost 20 pounds.....I have taken a single tylenol for a headache (I lived on alleve or advil pre-op for knees and headaches)......I can move around much better, have energy to burn.

The one thing I am working on is nausea.....had a week where nausea was 27/7....I think we figured the Prilosec was the culprit......will have my 1 month post op tomorrow and see where we are going with it......they want me back on full liquids.....and I would still do it again in a heart beat....good luck.

Yup, would crawl over broken glass to get to my surgery if I had to do it again. It was a bit like childbirth, painful at the time but the memory fades as the joy takes over, lol! Had one weepy day as hormones were all over the place and buyers remorse kicked in. But not regretted it one bit since. My health has improved significantly and I couldn't have done that without the help of my sleeve. Good luck!

Even when I thought I would change my mind as I was getting on the OR table. I would do it again in a heart beat. Have gotten rid of 4 pills so far and hope to get rid of 3 more this month. Down 82 lbs since may. People at work have had to look twice at me just this week. I hope to live longer for myself and my kids. Hell yes a million times!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
