I will likely exceed my calories today :( Thank you Sliders!

Well, here's a lesson learned. 200 calories used to sound like nothing in the old days. Now, it's a fourth of my daily allowance. Yes I understand this but when it came time to decide whether or not to have a Protein bar, I looked at it and said, oh, it's only 200 calories.

Yeah. 200 calories that did NOT go thunk, that tasted like sugar, and now I am still very hungry. I am obviously not one of those that will feel no hunger. Every day at meal and snack time, I get hungry. And I have to eat right THEN otherwise i get nauseated and light-headed.

So here we are, no dinner yet, and I only have 137 calories--and a very hungry tummy. Almost 5 weeks post-surgery, I still hadn't hit the 800 calorie mark. Today, it appears I will go over. (Insert sarcastic font here). Should REALLY help with the "no weight-loss over 10 days thing". I'm bummed because it feels a little like a slippery slope from the old days, where I'd go over my calorie limits "just that one day" because of something.

I guess we all have to learn the hard way what our sliders are, but for me, Oh Yeah Protein Bars appear to be sliders. Of course, I now have a whole box full of them, but I guess I won't be eating them. I mean, I expected crackers, sweets, chips, donuts, popcorn, simple carbs etc. to be sliders, but it hadn't occurred to me something with 15 gms of Protein would be a slider?

Does that happen? Are there other things that are sliders for you that are not simple carbs?

It hasn't happened to me (post surgery) but I know that lots of people find Protein Bars to be sliders and hunger triggers. They are the sort of thing that is comparatively high carb, soft, easily digestible so they can definitely be sliders. I found that they triggered cravings for me before surgery so I won't even have them in the house now. I learned my lesson after eating four strawberry cheesecake Protein bars in about three hours. :o

Oh I could TOTALLY do that! They were Peanut Butter and caramel and they tasted just like a snickers bar. It's the devil's work I tell you! I'm mad at myself.

I dont really have a said slider food.. except for potato chips.. which i try to stay far far away from..

but maybe what you are feeling is head hunger..?

the reason i ask.. is because.. i'm almost 8 months post op.. and have a pure Protein chocolate and Peanut Butter bar for lunch almost everyday.. its a 50gm bar and i can barely finish it.. and i "think" that i'm hungry after an hour or so.. but cant really eat anything..

or maybe you are not drinking enough Water.. most Protein bars i've seen come with a label asking us to drink atleast 8oz of Water with the bar.. we obviously can not do that.. so i drink 4 oz some 15 minutes before and 8oz after 15 minutes..

I can't even think about trying those the thought of chocolate makes me ill. Lol since the surgery chocolate flavored anything. Makes me want to vomit. I'm not good with vanilla either... Lol go figure! But I remember before surgery I would eat the pure Protein Peanut Butter bars I think it had 2 grams of sugar and 20g of Protein but it also had 16g carbs... They made me full back then I'd often eat them for lunch at work and it took forever to chew them!

Im new at this and all but I keep hearing that if you are stalled you should raise your calories and that helps get the scale moving back down..so maybe it will be a blessing in disguise!

What kind of bar are you eating with 50 g? How many calories?

i'm sorry.. it not 50gm of Protein.. its 50gm the bar size.. its 200 calories and 20gm of protein..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XULC6Q/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I somtimes also have the smores version.. its bigger.. so split it into two Snacks.. and 280 calories with 30gm of protein.. and much tougher to chew than the Peanut Butter version..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GBKEO0/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

these however have higher carbs.. but my nut was ok with it..

What carb and fat range are you guys using each day?

I'm trying to do the following: 800 calories, 80 gms of carbs. That amounts to 40% of my total calories. The rest of the calories, I try to split evenly between carbs and Fats. That give me P/C/F of 80 gms/60gms/27gms fat. I almost always hit the Protein, almost never hit the carbs.

Gamergirl - what is your own personal daily quota of protein, fat, calorie, carb? I try to limit myself as well to what I think suits my need, but it's always interesting to hear what someone else is striving for.

As for the Protein Bar...I've also heard that in you're stalled to eat a higher amount of fat/calories. So consider this your day and tomorrow start fresh. Don't be so hard on yourself!

Hi there! I had just posted my personal quota's for kennedy so pasting again:

I'm trying to do the following: 800 calories, 80 gms of carbs. That amounts to 40% of my total calories. The rest of the calories, I try to split evenly between carbs and Fats. That give me P/C/F of 80 gms/60gms/27gms fat. I almost always hit the protein, almost never hit the carbs.

I will add that i also try to limit sugar to 20 right now, but that's an old left over habit from the old days, not sure whether or not I need to do that. Eventually I'd like to hit 25 gms Fiber either via food or supplementing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
