We're right around the same post op time frame! I, too, get very hungry still. And I think I've said this in every post possible... I can eat more than the "3bites" everyone talks about. Definitely not nearly as much as before, but way more than 3 bites.

Anyway, I feel ya! For dinner, you should maybe make yourself a one egg omelet. I have found them to be incredibly filling (and I hated eggs preop). I add a capful of milk to the eggs and it makes them fluff nicely. 1 egg, seasoning, a tiny bit of cheese, and a sauce (salsa, marinara, etc) this should fill you up and be tasty. Plus you won't feel like you're going over your calories bc of a bar that left you hungry :-(that's got to be the worst feeling.

I scarfed mine in 5 mins flat. NO restriction. i was rushing to get to a meeting and i couldn't even barely tell when I started and when I finished.

Was it that brand?? I could barely chew them unless it was really small bites the texture was really very dry and chewy. Lol goes to show you how different everyone is!!

I have no idea how people can equate 1/4 c with three bites. That's like 10 bites at least for me! So far with dense Protein, I haven't been able to do more than 2 oz at a time. But if it is at all moist with mayo, yogurt, a little curry, then I can do 3-4 oz. Your egg idea sounds good! They do go thunk for me.

The hunger sucks doesn't it? :(

I would wonder whether this was part of the issue here? For me, being really mindful about eating has been key in this journey to date. I have come to the conclusion that it will remain key for the remainder of my life too!

I know that when I eat, I have to be mindful. Not only of the choices I am making about what to eat, but about how to eat as well. My personal assistant now makes sure he diaries in time for me to sit down and eat throughout the day. It doesn't always work out like that (I have a fairly demanding job, travel frequently, and often run from meeting to meeting) but we strive for it. I will also eat during meetings (internal ones, not with clients, heh) if I need to. I still make mistakes, have bad days, make poor choices etc but I am getting good at just using these as reminders to mindfulness.

I sit down, I take conscious bites, I chew thoroughly and breathe before taking the next bite. I put cutlery or the food I am holding down while I chew and will take breaks during a meal. It takes practice, so don't let one bad day get you down :-)

Hunger is terrible! Especially when you thought you wouldn't feel hungry. ESPECIALLY when people around you say they don't feel hungry. I have a friend that was sleeved. And 2 years out she still feels no hunger... Ever. Makes me a little sad. I think my surgeon left my sleeve bigger than most.

I have to stay away from the Protein bars because they are to much like a candy and I am afraid they will trigger the carb monster in me. I know it gets tough to find different foods to eat especially on the go. If you can spend some time combing through some of the links it might help you to pick some different foods that will fulfill you. I bought a bento box and have found a lot of wonderful ideas to fill it for my lunch and Snacks. If you go to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com or www.yourlighterside.com or www.bariatricfoodies.com you might find some ideas. They have some great ideas on pintrest. Hope this helps! :)

Louise I wondered that too. The last time I didn't eat mindfully, I ate an entire crab cake and was still hungry and that was because I ended up eating it over an hour-long meeting. I told myself then I needed to eat mindfully.

Did my husband pay you to tell me about scheduling lunch? :) He's been after me for years to schedule time for lunch. It sounds too decadent to me but maybe I need to think about it seriously. I hate telling people it will be two weeks before I meet with them and its already about that bad.

But I do wonder if you are right because even a 130 calorie Protein shake does go thunk for me so you would think the bar would have too.

You know what? I SO want a bento box! Pre surgery I looked at them and thought ones that help half a cup were too little. But they're the perfect size now aren't they? :) it may be bento box time for me. They're so cute.

So I followed your egg advice and it really worked for me. I did end up going 64 calories over still because I had some cheese to help with the hunger before dinner, but decided to not obsess over it. Thanks for the idea!

I absolutely love mine! You can order them on Amazon and pick the color you want. I also ordered little muffin cups etc. to add to it which helps to divide up the foods if you do a bunch of little items for one meal. You can also order them at www.laptoplunches.com. I go to Whole Foods and get some great stuff for my lunches and I also ordered small skewers to make my lunch look festive. It's all a mind game but my lunches look cute and I always look forward to eating it! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
