Greetings- my name is Liz and I am getting sleeved on Sept. 23rd. This community has been super helpful and I am looking forward to become a solid member who can get and offer support. I am the mother of three, work full time, am completing a doctorate program and weigh 344 pds. I think we all know what life is like as an obese person. I am Di ready to be released from this turmoil times and to give birth to a new me. I am afraid I won't loose weight even if I do the right things. It is like a night mare and I can appreciate your encouragement. My goal is to loose 170. Is this possible? I know many of you have and I can appreciate your story! Looking forward to engage in dialogue.

Liz

Well welcome.

And ANYTHING is possible. I have about 225 to lose altogether, and have lost over 75 so far. The "stomach" part is easy. The HEAD part is where we ALL need to focus. Look forward to seeing your posts and comments.

I've seen many people on here who have lost that and more! The sleeve will not fail...you WILL lose...however, for long term success (like Arts said) you need to conquer your inner demons. It's hard...it's definitely not easy (for example: one of my students gave me chocolate covered pecans, 400 calories for the entire box, it took me the entire day--2 at a time--but I ate the whole thing!), temptation will be your greatest enemy, but you have to be strong and pick yourself right back up when you fall and try harder!

Good luck and congrats on your decision!!!!

Darling,

I am being sleeved the day after you. I am also excited and anxious at the same time. I am a wife and work full time and also working on my second masters degree. I want to loose between 100-120 pounds. Best of luck with your surgery and let us know how you do.

Thank you so much friends. There is one thing someone said here that have stuck with me: "do not take this surgery for granted" I am so prepared to give it my all. I know it will be tough but I am positive that I will try and try. I am thinking about continuing therapy and being even more committed to weekly appointments and over eaters anonymous to start to forgive myself and make peace with food. As well, my friend reminded me to come from a place of love and not fear to work with myself. I am kinda doing self talks to guide my thinking until all becomes a habit! Looking forward to hear your stories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
