ladylaura 77 Posted September 6, 2013 Great ideas, thanks! I thought about getting Jerky or a beef strip, but then I worry about the sodium. Has that been an issue for you?
AtlantaRed 651 Posted September 6, 2013 I bought a dehydrator on Amazon and a Jerky gun for homemade jerky. I buy the nesco jerky flavoring and you can leave out the 'cure' to reduce the salt. You can use steak without the gun, BUT with the different tips included with the jerky gun, you can make softer round ones more similar to a Slim Jim or a flat one that amazingly make the ground beef feel like steak like Jack Links. You have to use the lean ground beef and it makes a very large batch. Without the cure, you have to keep it in the fridge or even freeze some. The cure allows you to leave it out on the counter for about a week and a half. The original flavoring packet is so very tasty. There are different flavors but I haven't tried any others. 1 ladylaura reacted to this
