Those who say they can only eat 2 or 3 bites ?

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing people say they can only eat 2 or 3 bites and these are people that have been sleeved 6 months or more.

Do you mean 2 or 3 big bites like you took pre-surgery? I know this sounds dumb but it keeps bugging me. Even 1/4 cup of food is a lot more than 3 bites to me.

Well, I don't know who you are talking about specifically, to go back and see so this is my imput:

2-3 bites at 6 months, if they are small bites, well chewed are are not following, say 12-14 additional bites thye are not counting ( ;) ) is not common nor good. A small bite, say a babyspoon shewed well is what you should be aiming for, now and forever. It allows you to mix your food with your saliva, swallow it, and provide you tummy with the most gentle option of digestion available. how many it takes, for me, is pre-measured in advance at a maximum, if I cant eat it all so be it.

If you took three of a bite of anything and it equals to a 1/4 of a cup - whoooaaaaaa there - before or after surgery, and even if you never have surery this is something that needs work. that is too much to possibly chew correctly, or swallow well, and is too much to trigger a full sensation.

Sleeved 15 weeks here. When I think of a bite for me currently, it is equivalent to about 1/3 to 1/2 of a tablespoon I would say, whereas before surgery a bite for me could be about a tablespoon I think. There are 16 tablespoons in a cup, so a quarter cup would be 4 tablespoons (presurgery bites). . ..I don't feel like doing the math to figure out what a quarter cup in pmy postsurgery bites is :) it is less than a quarter cup tho, safe to say.

If I'm eating chicken, beef, pork etc., I can only get about 4 bites in before I am full. eggs and fish I can do maybe 6 bites. I have been known to spit out that last bite that I realize while chewing will end up being one too many. What I do instead of measuring cups or bites is to measure ounces or grams on my little food scale. I measure out 3 oz of my Protein, and usually have 1 to 1 1/2 oz left when I'm done eating.

ANYways, all of this only applies to eating Protein. If I'm eating pudding or yogurt, I can defntly get more than a couple of bites in.

Maybe these two or three bites are carbs or "bad" food that is used as a treat.

Question: I'm not quite two weeks out. I'm finding this week I'm able to take in two Protein drinks, a cup of protein broth, and 1/2 cup of protein pudding during the day without any problem. I'm getting nervous that I won't feel any restriction once I start on regular food. I love hearing people say they can only take in two or three bites of something. I loved it last week when 1/4 cup of pudding made me full. Now I'm ok with 1/2 cup. Should I be concerned? Or does it change with solids?

I am 3 1/2 months out and for dinner tonight I ate 1 oz of grilled pork loin. It was about 4 or 5 finger nail sized bites. Lean Protein fills me up really fast.

For lunch today, I was out with friends at a Mexican restaurant. I ate the meat from the taco, about 1/8 cup of the Beans and two tortilla chips. I made this (MAYBE) 1/4 cup of food the whole lunch, so it was a lot of bites and I know I overdid it.

My food ability varies wildly, but I can rarely eat more than 7 or 9 baby bites, using a baby spoon or cocktail fork. Probably 2-3 bites in my pre-sleeved life. It's pretty pathetic, but I'm thrilled.

Trust me you will feel the restriction, liquid diet was the easiest part for me, figuring out what to eat after is the bigger problem, within 5 minutes of eating you will feel full, just watch out for the signs of u getting full like hiccups or yawning they're signs I usually get

...does it change with solids?

It definitely changes with solids. Those items you mentioned are sliders. You're going to discover that there are slider foods out there, but meats/fish fill you up quick!

It most certainly does change when you switch to solids! Try not worry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
