swimmers or water aerobics people?

Recommended Posts

To anyone who has had the surgery who swims or does Water aerobics, how long did you wait till you got back in the pool?

Yes I know you have to wait till everything is healed so you can get in the pool, & yes I know everyone is different. my Surgeon says that he would like me to wait a month, the physical therapist said 8-12 weeks. I enjoy doing both & I also know when my body hurts to stop. any advise? I am just trying to figure out a plan, plans change & things arise.

Thanks. :)

I haven't been back to the pool since surgery, but my surgeon actually told me it was okay to do so the day he released me from the hospital. Said I didn't need to wait. My incisions were glued, so I don't know if that makes a difference or what.

I was back in the pool at 4 weeks. I don't know why your PT would say 8-12 weeks, usually they are encouraging you to get in the Water ASAP. All incisions need to be closed, not oozing and not be infected before you go back in a public pool. This is for your and the other people's safety.

That helps a lot. I was thinking when I felt I could I would. The PT said something about recovery, but I quit listening after she said that. I think she wants people to go to her class. Either way I figure I'm the only one who knows what my limitations are. I also know to wait till no incisions are open. I just find such peace in the Water. :D

I love being in the Water, swimming and water aerobics. My surgeon said 2 to 4 weeks depending on how quickly my incisions healed. They were healed by 1 week but I waited until 4 just to be safe. 8 weeks doesn't seem necessary.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
