Snacks and Work Lunch Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Went to the doctor for my 3 week follow-up this morning and everything checked out fine! He cleared me for everything and I feel good (except when I eat of course. Still getting "the slimes" pretty bad). Anyway, I'm back to work and life and everything else now, and wondered if you guys had any suggestions of Snacks and/or meals to take. I know I need to eat pretty frequently, but I don't always have a fridge or microwave to use. What are some of your "go-to" snack and work lunches?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm one month post op and right now for my lunch/snack I take things like boiled eggs (sometimes I throw away the yolk), egg salad, chicken salad, string cheese, cheese cubes, yogurt, pepperoni slices, and Quest Protein Bars. I have access to a microwave/fridge, but right now I use a lunch bag and containers that both have ice packs. This might be something you can look at getting since you don't always have access to the fridge. And as you can see, I don't take anything that needs microwaving. Hope this gives you some ideas :)

I use work to get in my liquids alot. I am often busy no matter where I go, so the way I prepe for work is similar to home.

I would evaluate HOW you can eat at work and how easy it is to prep, how secure your food is, if you have a fridge, etc. I have been really fortunate that way we have a full kitchen, only 6 people sharing it, etc.

Cans of spinnach are worth their weight in gold. Tasty and hydrating all on their own, they don't need ANY refrigeration and a little lemon and avacado really turn it up a notch, too.

I eat alot of mono meals, which is just a bowl of fruit or veggies (at 20 months out I am almost fully raw).

You can also "play" with your food. I LOVE BENTO BOXES!!! I have so much fun that way.

seaweed Snacks are good, an apple slice, almond butter and wrap it in a spinac leaf is OMG awesome.

a small amount of nuts can help fill out your requirements for the day. finely chopped kale, walnuts and dried cranberries with some blue cheese and pears make a nice dry salad - no mess.

If you invest in a little insulated lunch bag with room for a freezer pack you can probably widen your options.

I big go-to for me early on was a few ounces of lean deli turkey and a piece of cheese. I would have it cold most times, or even heat it for a few seconds to melt the cheese. Or even roll up a piece of turkey with some cheese.

Grilled chicken/chicken salad are also on my list.

Low fat Cheese sticks were and still are a staple for Snacks for me.

Greek yogurt is also a staple.

Now that I'm further out, I get pre-portioned nuts from Trader Joes and keep them handy for a snack. Good Protein bars (I use Pure Protein) are also good to boost your Protein. My nut doesn't want me to have more than one a day, though.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, I'm eating a lot of greek yogurt, but right now all I have are Peanut Butter crackers which aren't ideal. Thank you for the great suggestions!! :)

I take a small container of chicken salad and keep it in the office refrigerator. I have a little bit of that on 1-2 pieces wasa light n'crisp. Otherwise Quest bars get me by ( especially the white chocolate raspberry)

Check out eggfaces blog. She tends to do a day in my pouch and a ton of bento boxes. I get ideas from her when I'm looking for something different. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/?m=1

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
