Back in April I had my endoscopy. I woke up toward the end of it. I remember the doctor shoving the tube down my throat as I gagged and burped. Tears ran down my face and all I could think was "stay calm, he's almost done" it seemed to be an eternity! Ever since that day, whenever I raise my right arm in the air I automatically burp. I asked my Pcp and she assured me everything is fine. This never happened before my endoscopy. Has this happened to any of you?

It wasn't an endoscopy...BUT...I woke up when they were removing stents from my stomach...I could feel them pulling them out...I made a noise and with in a milla-second I was out again. I was terrified when I woke up again in recovery.....No one talked about it...But I was scared because next they were going to insert clamps to close my leak...

I burp all the time and sneeze when I eat and my nose runs as well.....The trade offs we make for weight loss eh!

Your probably okay...just keep swimming K

I don't want to dismiss the burping in response to a particular set of muscles moving (mild pinch or hernia? is that possible?)

But I would be concerned that you woke up under anesthesia - that needs to be discussed and an understanding that another anesthesia be used from now on, whenever that may be.

I woke up during JAW surgery, and then knee surgery years later. For the VS/tumor removal it was a whole different class of anesthesia. Went very smoothly and recovery (waking up) was non-existent, as part of the anesthesia that was used on me kept me from remembering recovery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
