cloud9 29 Posted September 4, 2013 When does the risk of blood clots subside post-op? I am 1 week post-op and am walking 10 - 15 minutes every 2 hours of my waking day.

BookWorm 87 Posted September 4, 2013 Iit was thought that for most patients, the heightened risk lasted only a few days - and reduced when they were up and moving around normally. But now research has shown that surgery patients are still at a higher risk of a clot for seven to 12 weeks after surgery. Keep walking.

italian-girl 152 Posted September 4, 2013 My surgeon said the highest risk is up to 4 weeks. She made me take 6 weeks off work due to my long commute to and from work because of the blood clot risk.

cloud9 29 Posted September 4, 2013 To help prevent post-op pneumonia, my doctor told me to use the spirometer frequently every day for the first week following surgery. Of course if any fever >101 I am to let him know. I am stopping use tomorrow -I feel great!
