Sleeve surgery and PCOS

Recommended Posts

I might submit for a mileage reimbursement. It's an hour drive to and from Kaiser SSF. If for some reason I have stay in the recovery room, if they have no rooms for me, then I will want them to reimburse me for a hotel room for my husband. What about you?

I had my gastric sleeve surgery last thursday @ kssf with dr Khayat, i was home friday morning. Except for gas pain and some nausea everything went as planned. The staff at kssf were all nice and extremely helpful and dr Khayat, hes just simply the best.

That's great to hear Jones! I have heard nothing but awesome things about Dr Khayat so I am hoping my surgery will go well this coming Wednesday.

Good luck Miss mojo. I'm now 12 days out. If I didn't have those ugly incisions on my belly, I wouldn't believe I had surgery recently! It's a wild card though, you never know how your experience will be. I have been lucky and haven't had gas or any of the other side effects. The first 24 hours were brutal, but it's been smooth sailing since then. Back to work today and I'm going great! Hope your experience is similar!

I was incredibly nauseous in the hospital. I finally figured out it was the pain killer in the IV doing it. I can't remember the name, but it was synthetic heroin! Don't be afraid to ask for something different if you feel nauseous.

Did anyone with PCOS have trouble losing pre op? I haven't met goal and it's been a year. So I still haven't qualified

I had trouble losing weight when I came off the pill and my PCOS showed it's ugly head. I had tried every diet under the sun and could not lose a gram!! I know it's hard but when I did my 2 week pre op Optifast diet I lost 7kgs. Maybe if u haven't tried a shake diet u might want too. Or go back to ur GP and ask for some help

I am so excited to have my sleeve surgery Aug 12th! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and have had weight issues all my life. My cycles have been all over the place, from having a constant cycle for 8 months straight, to having no cycles for 4 months at a time. On and off B/C pills to control symptoms, but now I have been trying to conceive for the past two years with no success. Obese, infertile, and hairy do not make for a very positive self-image. With a supportive husband and a strong will to succeed, I'm looking forward to getting sleeved and starting our family!

I have PCOS and am currently new to the surgery and getting started on my journey. I feel so good knowing there is so many supporters that are here to help me with it all. My periods have never been normal or regular. Got a DNC in may and it helped for a month or so. Please feel free to talk to me and share whatever you like. I always have an open ear.

@@Tiffy1026 How far along are you in the process? I started Nov 2013 and just got approved by insurance and given a surgery date last week. The insurance "game" can be very frustrating, but I feel in the end it will be worth every bit of it.

I have my first appointment with my PCP on August 16th so I'm not very far yet. Called my insurance today to see what requirements I need for it. I know its going to take time and I'm good with that. Like you said it will all be worth it in the end. I wish nothing but the best for you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
