Anyone else with blood related problems?

I was diagnosed with lupus antibodies last week which means my clotting process is abnormal and am more prone to clotting and if I am to have surgery my hematologist wants me on a thinner shot once a day for a month. I told my surgeon it ran in the family and I had tested a positive negative a few years ago it was dismissed but she wanted to double make sure. She did say that they can do surgery with this but I'm nervous she might say no. A month seems like a long time to be on shots so I will have to talk to my surgeon cause my hematologist didn't quite understand what a gastric sleeve was and how much you really have to get up and move.

I have had clotting issues for almost a decade and I have survived a PE to boot. I was incredibly scared when I had a debulking surger for cancer almost 4 years ago. But there are things your surgeonis likely to do to prevent any problems: you may get an IVC filter which is placed in the main vein leading to the heart. Typically a radiologist will do his before surgery. You will probably have leg compressors placed on you legs before you are wheeled to recovery. This keeps the blood circulation . You might be on lovinox or arixtra which are subcutaneous injected blood thinners. I was on the shots for over a year and know on warfin for past two years. I have to stop blood thinners 6 days prior to surgery but will take heparin shots for a week after. I know how this adds to being scared but your surgeon will know how best to proceed. Make sure you get all your hemo records to the surgeon. Hope it works out

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
