BettyLou2013 13 Posted September 3, 2013 I'm officially two weeks post-op today and have lost 56 pounds with pre and post op combined. My frustration is I haven't dropped a clothing size yet. Very upsetting :'( it really puts a negative spin on things.
Chittick24 52 Posted September 3, 2013 It's going to come... I did the same thing and then I started dropping sizes sometimes I would skip one and go to the next size down. For some reason there were time I was losing weight but not sizes. Then others where I was dropping sizes but not a lot of weight. Give it time.
butterfly_gal 151 Posted September 3, 2013 I feel your frustration. I have five months out, down 84 pounds and have only dropped two sizes I am sure it will catch up eventually. I was hoping it would be more noticeable. I do suggest places like goodwill during the losing period. I have fallen back on my local one. I can't speak for all of them, but mine has a great selection of great condition clothes. I have gotten two pairs of Tommy Hilfiger jeans for under $
AtlantaRed 651 Posted September 3, 2013 I haven't been sleeved yet, but a few years ago, I decided to work really hard and try to lose weight. I exercised 6 days a week, hiked more than 5 miles 3 days a week, ate less than 1000 cal a day and drank only Water...it was 50 pounds before I lost ONE clothing size! Talk about disheartening. All that hard work and had to lose 50 pounds before buying smaller clothes. Clearly, I must have been stuffed into the size I was wearing, but still! I sure felt good, though, doing all that exercise! Looking forward to it again. As stated above, I'm sure when it happends, it will happen quickly!
Stef_L 76 Posted September 4, 2013 it pretty much depends, for me it didn't feel like I dropped sizes but my clothes felt baggy until I went shopping and bam I was in a 24 at 3 months and a month later I was able to button a 22. Coming from a size 30 I should have figured it out sooner but I just expected "baggy" clothing. Have you tried putting on some smaller sizes at all??? you might have an NSV! I'm almost 4 months post op and down 85 lbs from surgery and 110 total- you'll get there. I felt discouraged from a lot until I was 3 months post op and it'll hit you. Good luck and from your numbers you're doing amazing! 1 becky2013 reacted to this
deedeemuffin 346 Posted September 4, 2013 Give it time. I am 9 months out, down 111 lbs., from a size 34 to a 22 & none of it happened how I thought. You can eat perfectly & exercise & the scale won't move. You can lose 50 lbs. & not one size. I just went 4 full weeks without losing any weight at all...absolutely ZERO change on the sale but lost 2 sizes. It can be frustrating, but have faith in yourself & the process. Follow your nutrition & exercise program & the rest will fall into place eventually. 7 miangr, Stef_L, Catherine707 and 4 others reacted to this
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted September 4, 2013 I lost about 50 pounds before I lost my first size. Maybe because my clothes were snug, maybe because it was a lot of Water, or because I was losing from all over - my face, boobs, wrists, arms, thighs, etc. When I hit a stall, I am not losing pounds, but I am losing inches which equates to sizes. It's all good, you will get there.
BettyLou2013 13 Posted September 4, 2013 Thanks ladies! My highest size was a 30/32 and I was "stuffed" into it. Now they fit me better but just thought Id be out of it by now. I know I didn't put on this weight over night so I shouldn't expect to drop sizes over night. :-) it's encouraging to know I'm not the only one. All of you are inspirational!! Keep up the awesome work. 1 Jouselle reacted to this
Jouselle 45 Posted September 4, 2013 This is really good to know. I'm not sure what to expect. I guess I should expect the unexpected!
Catherine707 253 Posted September 4, 2013 I was frustrated with the same thing. Then I thought about how all my clothes are "stretchy", they expanded with me as I lost weight and contracted with me over the first 50 pounds. I think I am used to baggy clothes now. I have a couple of tops that I had to put in the give away pile because I was swimming in them, and I am getting close to that point for other clothes. My work pants are really baggy in the butt, and I can wear one size smaller now too. I just haven't lost as much in the tummy area as I was expecting at this point. It is nice to hear that other struggle with this issue too. 1 BettyLou2013 reacted to this
RoxFC 175 Posted September 4, 2013 I'm 6 weeks post op and I have lost about 34 lbs. I'm still in my same size clothes. I think I may be down one size but I haven't checked. The way I see it is that, as we get smaller, we should see the sizes come down quicker. I was just telling my best friend how I have lost a little over 30lbs...she is so amazed by this. However, she' seeing this amount in reference to her weight. She is under 200lbs so if she lost over 30lbs it would be a major change in her size. But, for someone like me, who was 264lbs at the time of my surgery, 34lbs is great and quite an accomplishment...but, it is not drastic enough to drop a significant amount in clothes size. It's all relative to how much weight we have to lose. I have no doubt that the weight and inches are coming off. I know I have to be patient before I see a shift in my actual clothing size. I was a size 20 for awhile. I was also able to fit into a size 20 even if I went up a few pounds. Hang in there! The NSV will come for us all! 2 Catherine707 and BettyLou2013 reacted to this
Chittick24 52 Posted September 7, 2013 This really helped me when I was in the losing phase... Think about how you gained weight? From right before surgery going back... Basiclly you will lose what you last gain body portion wise . My trouble area was my hips an still is. It took alot to see the sizes drop in that area. Have to think of this too. Plus size clothing is made to fit people that have cushion in different areas. And there made to hide heavier weighted people's trouble areas. Once you get past the size you were in.... The sizes will start to drop quickly!!! Just remember don't buy a lot of cloths... Shop thift stores, goodwill, friends because it can be expensive. 1 BettyLou2013 reacted to this
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted September 7, 2013 The bigger sizes take longer to get out of. The smaller sizes are closer together! It depends on your body shape and how you carry your weight, too. I started out in a 22 and am in a 16 now, and I'm only down 55 pounds. I carry most my weight in the middle, and it's coming off there first. 2 mbran and SuNMooNStaRS816 reacted to this
AshleyMidwife 189 Posted September 9, 2013 Remember also that there is fat stored around your organs and that fat is going away as well. You won't see any drastic change is waist size if you're losing from around your organs, but believe me, your body is thanking you. Keep up the good work! 1 HatheryOnHerWay reacted to this
On A Mission 3 Posted September 9, 2013 56 pounds after 2 week post op is an incredible achievement! I wish I did half as well. Don't stress, it's way too early for that! It will come!
