Overall agreat ecperience, I was walking the same day of the surgery and went back home the next day. Following all indications sharp by the hour!

Yes, all good, back to work! Not easy but working on it, still with liquids broth and added fish to diet. Learning to do purees. And happy with the lost of 37 pounds!

Dr McGill was my surgeon. He was GREAT. I've been an ICU nurse for 30 years and had plenty of questions. he never got frustrated with me, and always answered my questions and made sure I was comfortable. Karen the dietician was great, she has some great tips for making eating easier after surgery. The staff at Piedmont hospital were AMAZING. Felt like I was the only patient on the unit. I think they camped out at my door and waited for me to need something. Dr McGill even dealt with my crazy mother and family while I was in recovery, and he did it with a smile and never took it personally. He reminds me of an overgrown Opie Taylor from Andy Griffith show. AMAZING doctor. Recently I had a stomach virus and had some vomiting. I had to call the answering service at 7:30 in the morning. Dr McGill called me back within 5 minutes and when I apologized for bothering him; he stopped me mid sentence and told me that was his job, I was not bothering him. Got me feeling better very quickly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
