Coconut Water in the Clear Liquids phase?

Recommended Posts

I love coconut Water and it turns out that it's pretty good for you.

I have surgery in a week and I've been gathering the stuff and want to drink coconut Water while I am recovering. For those who have gone through this already, do you think that would be okay?

In the first two weeks it is such a struggle to get in fluids that you need to drink whatever you can that tastes good. Check the label of your Coconut Water though because some of them have added sugar, and you want to stay away from sugary drinks.< /p>

Oh I will, I just want to drink pure coconut Water. No additives.

Isopure has a drink called cocotien, it has 20 or 30gms of Protein, I can't remember. I bought it at GNC, and it's pretty good, low sugar, low carb. I know the bottle is a little smaller than regular Isopure drinks thats why it does not have the 40gms of protein. I just hope I like it post-op.

Word to the wise. I kept reading that peoples tastes change post op. I kept thinking how is that possible. I "tried on" every Protein drink I could get my hands on without spending $80 a bottle. And thought I had found exactly the right powder for me. Had surgery 8/27 and first drink of Fluid Water (which I can usually drink tons of) couldn't stomach it. Or the sugar free Jello or the chicken or the beef broths. Was able to drink some fruit punch crystal light (was never my favorite flavor before). Fast forward 1 week post op. Still having trouble with broths, Water and Jello. But the "worst" flavor of crystal light goes down like a charm. And don't get me started on my extensively researched Protein powders. Just had to go back to the store to find new brands/flavors to try to find something I can drink.

I can't wait till this time next week when I can start eating pureed. So many things have looked and smelled so good while I've sat quietly gagging down my broths and Protein drinks.

Jatherly- I agree 100%. Before surgery I bought two cases of Isopure, all the flavors, and after surgery the ONLY one I could even think of gagging down was coconut. My hubby had to exchange all the other flavors for coconut. I also had to exchange other flavors of Protein Shakes as well because I could not stand the taste. I bought a total of four cases of assorted drinks (I went a little overboard- I still have some chocolate shakes in my refrigerator from before surgery), and only ended up being able to drink Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate and Isopure Coconut. All the other ones went back. So I recommend buying a bunch of different ones, but only one bottle or can, and keep the receipts in case you need to return or exchange.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
