One Week Surgiversary

Recommended Posts

As I reflect on this past week I am in awe that I am already here. First I have realized that as much as this forum is a great source of information, that everyone is SO different, that it really is an individual journey as much as a group journey. I have also realized that a lot of the struggles are mind over matter, it sucks to get Water in, but "sip sip sip" is pretty much point on in those first few days. I felt like a baby nursing lol, it was constant.... sip...sip...sip.... The persistence has paid off, the first day I only got in 17oz, the second 40oz and yesterday.... 70oz. Protein is another story.... and another post. I have unofficial weights, but I won't make anything official until my two week check up next Monday, lets just say I am coming up on a loss that will put me at my lowest in over 15 months. My energy has come back ten fold in these past couple days and I am starting to feel like myself again. Pain is nearly non existent, tylenol takes care of any issues. I am excited for this journey! I can not wait for a month out when I start clinicals again, I can't even begin to imagine how different I will feel!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
