Burst Training

Recommended Posts

I am starting to learn about this type of training and wondered how it could apply to WLS patients. If you have any experience with burst training, please post your thoughts and experiences.

Sounds like cross fit (my exercise of choice) or even HIIT (if you add strength training to it). This looks like an effective use of time and generates real results, fast. I would go for it if you have the energy and can sustain it for week after week. How far are you post op and how much do you eat?

These types of workouts will require you to have stored glycogen in your muscles for high intensity workouts. The best way to build up these glycogen stores is with complex carbs. A high amount of Complex carbs or simple carbs are not the best food source for initial weight loss during the first 6 months, but that is just my opinion. If you can get through these types of workouts without eating a lot of carbs then all the power to you.

Good luck!

It seems the basic thought process is that you burn burn rest periods the opposite sugar/energy than when you are exercising. When you do long cardio/etc. you are burning fat so when you are not working out for the next 24 hours, you are burning sugar stored in muscle for energy. So when you do this burst training, you burn the sugars/muscle and for the next 24 hours your body burns fat. I think this is the way I understand it from the explanation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
