I am one month post-op as of today and I am soooooo very frustrated!!!

I should be on a soft food diet at this point but it seems that every time I take a bite of something it makes me nauseated or creates a gassy issue (almost immediate burping). I feel like I will never be able to eat anything other than yogurt, Protein shakes or Water again.

I feel so discouraged, I am afraid to eat anything and jsut can't seem to get over this spot in time.

Did anyone else feel this way? If so, did you get to a point where you could tolerate things that actually had substance and taste?

When everything nauseates or disgusts you how do you get in your Protein and fluids???

Thanks y'all.

I was very fortunate that I started with liquids for 3 weeks, then pureeds for 3 weeks, soft foods for 3 weeks, then semi soft for 3 weeks, then whatever I could manage. You are only 4 weeks out so perhaps this is the time to be patient with your tummy and keep all foods in the pureed stage. Your tummy is swollen and in the healing process and it does get better. Perhaps focus on Protein Shakes if you drink them without getting nauseated. Also increase your Water intake as much as possible so your not dehydrated. You have got this far so now it's the time to baby your tummy. :P

Today makes 4 weeks for me, too......I was on soft foods last week.......somewhere I've posted about this today......and as of friday, everything I eat causes nausea........we were on vacation, so I didn't pay so much attention to it.......but this morning back at work, I realized I had nausea for over 6 hours........I have a call into the dr.......liquids are good, soft foods, bad..........and I'm on prilosec....it is frustrating, I'm right there with ya!

I still try to eat 2 ounces of Protein at meals.....and have a premier Protein Drink (or 2) sipped throughout the day for protein....Good luck

Everyone heals at different rates. Therefore it takes a different amount of timefor everyone to transition through different foods. But stock with it keep trying things every so often and before you know it you will be reading whatever you want. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
