ajayb19 12 Posted September 3, 2013 I have my EGD scheduled for this Wed. It's one of my final hoops before scheduling my surgery. After having to take a sleep study, I just found out that I have sleep apnea and now I have to sleep with a C-pap machine. I am so not looking forward to having a tube or camera down my throat. Can anyone shine a light on the EGD procedure and put my mind at ease? I know the doctors say it wont hurt, but really??? Are my fears unwarranted? 1 allthingsnew reacted to this
No Day But Today 5 Posted September 3, 2013 My whole procedure took less than 10 minutes and it didn't really hurt....just felt pressure. I just tried to focus on something peaceful and remember to breathe! You will do great and another hoop cleared! 1 ajayb19 reacted to this
alittler09 47 Posted September 3, 2013 Didn't feel a thing! I went in to the hospital where they go over everything a dozen times, lol. They put an IV in, give you a small amount of anesthesia, and do the scope and its over! You probably aren't out for more than 15-30 minutes, tops!! Good luck! alittler09 47 Posted September 3, 2013 I've had one in a doctors office last year for severe heartburn, and then this one for this surgery, but they both went exactly the same:) Amanda
ajayb19 12 Posted September 3, 2013 Thanks for the replies. I feel a little better, but I know I will still be shaky on the day! 1 alittler09 reacted to this
Melissa1234 69 Posted September 3, 2013 Doesn't hurt at all. I too was terrified, all for nothing. Only thing that hurt was the IV. You will do just fine, no worries 1 ajayb19 reacted to this
ejpjsmommy 12 Posted September 3, 2013 It was super simple. I'm a hard stick so my IV was the worse part lol. Quite honestly I don't remember anything after turning on my side. 2 ajayb19 and A_ReNUDE_me reacted to this
ajayb19 12 Posted September 3, 2013 I also have hard to find veins, so whenever I give blood or get an IV they tend to dig in my arm. Hopefully, as you have all said, the IV will be the worst of it. Thanks again!
MeganES 41 Posted September 3, 2013 Wishing you the best of luck tomorrow! I haven't even met with my surgeon yet but I'm told by others this is part of the pre-surgery process for most doctors and I'm pretty sure I'm more nervous about the EGD than I am the surgery Lol. Did anyone feel that it scratched their throat or anything? I'm a singer, I always get very nervous when something involves the throat. 1 ajayb19 reacted to this

I just learned that I have sleep apnea, so on top of now sleeping with a C-pap machine, my mother(a nurse) just informed me that I will most likely be intubated during the actual surgery and that for sure my throat will be inflamed...Ugh! JodiAnn210 35 Posted September 5, 2013 I didn't feel anything all they did to me was put my face mask on and gave me anesthesia to knock me out. I woke up and it was done. My fear was them putting cameras while I was awake..my nurse gave me permission to punch him if it happens. My throat was sore for 4 days but it went away. I was just as stressed! Hang in there! Its not as scary as it seems. Afterall the sleeve is going to be a challenge...that I'm scared ******** best of luck to you. 1 ajayb19 reacted to this
Kattastic 114 Posted September 12, 2013 My EGD is scheduled for 9/25. I will be put under sedation so I'm not worried about feeling pain or remembering anything about the actual procedure but I am nervous about what they are looking for! Can anyone tell me? I don't think I have any issues but you never know and so I'm curious if there something that could preclude me from having surgery?
blash67 82 Posted September 12, 2013 Piece of cake, and good practice for the big day. My surgeon did mine and I looked at it as a way to get to know him better and develop trust etc. the pleasant surprise is he has sleeved like half the hospital and so my preop nurse etc had been sleeved too and was very reassuring. Nice experience. 1 ajayb19 reacted to this

I was really nervous. I had mine done on the 4th. My surgeon found a mass on the lining of my esophagus & did a biopsy right then during the procedure. I saw him on Tues. and everything was fine, he said biopsy was negative and the surgery could happen as scheduled.
