Norseman's Rage 12 Posted September 3, 2013 I think I'd find another doctor. If one could lose 50lbs before surgery, why have the surgery at all? 5 Madam Reverie, soonerorlater, No Day But Today and 2 others reacted to this
AngiD 95 Posted September 3, 2013 My doctor wants me lose weight also, so far I have lost 31 pounds, but he did not give me certain amount to lose, going by my stomach thickness and wants me to cut out carbs. You can do it. 1 No Day But Today reacted to this
lemassey76 12 Posted September 3, 2013 I only had to lose 10 pounds pre-op. My husband had to lose 30. It might be based on how much weight you have to lose overall. I know the pre-op weight loss is important, but it seems like an impossible task. Have you started a liquid diet yet? My husband actually gained weight before he started his liquid diet (2 weeks before surgery). He lost his 30 pounds in 2 weeks. I only had one week of liquid diet. My friend's husband had 3 weeks of liquid diet. I don't know how much he had to lose as this was before I knew them. It's hard, but it's so worth it. My husband is down 200 pounds in 16 months. I'm 5 weeks out, and have lost 51 pounds. Good luck! 2 FRED1977 and No Day But Today reacted to this
AngiD 95 Posted September 3, 2013 from what my doctor said part is where you are carrying your weight, if the surgery can be done safely and also to see if we can handle the change. 1 No Day But Today reacted to this
FRED1977 186 Posted September 3, 2013 I agree this is a bit cray and good. Loosing 50 pounds is a lot of weight and you will have to be really motivated to do this before your surgery date. 1 No Day But Today reacted to this
Peggy D 124 Posted September 3, 2013 My doctor wanted me to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. That would be 30 pounds & I actually lost 44 pounds before surgery. My problem is that I've only lost 3.8 pounds since surgery! 1 No Day But Today reacted to this

I know that the 50 lbs he wants me to lose is based on my extremely high BMI. I understand it is in my best interest.....just very difficult.
