My approval took about three weeks. They require you to do either a three month or six month route. I did the three month route and it really took about six months. They require you to meet with a nutritionist once a month for three months and also to meet with a exercise specialist once a month for three months as well. I also had three classes that were two hours a piece that my doctor and the hospital required me to attend. I also had to attend a support group meeting. I had to meet with a psychologist as well, that was part of the doctors requirements for me to get into the plan. There were also labs and a sonagram and swallow tests as well. It was very hard to work all of these appointments in and still work a full time job. If you have any questions about the process please ask. I actually knew I was approved before my doctor did. Good luck.

Well I have Aetna and im currently going through the process now. At first I had to do the 3 month route but for some reason it was changed to 6 months. But I had to do a sleep study, endoscopy, psych eval, ekg, labs, and will have to do some tyoe of breath test. I also had to do see a pulmonary doctor for clearance because I have sleep apnea and oncologists(because my hemoglobin was low). I think it depends on what ever your job has written up with the insurance. I do however know a few people that have had the surgery and it only took around a week to get an approval. Good luck to you in your process!!

BE BLESSED!!!!

I have Aetna also. I finished my 3 month program and lost 7 pounds. However, during my last appt with my dr. He tells me he's leaving the practice, so now I'm frustrated and hoping I don't have to start all over with a new doc. Was hoping to leave with a surgery date, but now I need to start looking into a new doc that will accept the program paper work I completed with my old dr. I've gained 4 of the pounds I lost because of the stress. Have an appt next fri. If they accept me, do you think Aetna will have a problem with me gaining some of he wait back?

It will not appear under claims until after you had your surgery and Aetna processes the claims. To my knowledge there is no place to view your pre-certs. I was approved last Thursday (It took 13 days), you can call the number on your card and they will transfer to the pre-certification dept. Then you can ask for their direct line and check back periodically for movement on your file. Hope that helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
