ruthie74 101 Posted September 2, 2013 Hello everyone! I'm 3 months out and I have been cleared to eat whatever I want. Today I had lettuce for the first time. Made lean beef tacos with Tomato, avocado, a little but of shredded cheese. For the first time I had lettuce. I made the taco shell with lettuce...kinda like a lettuce wrap. So right when I was about to finish my second taco my stomach started to cramp. Not painful just feels like cramping and lots of moving around in there. Is this normal? Did the lettuce cause this? Thanks in advance
jensjoy28 351 Posted September 2, 2013 Seems likely lettuce was the cause. My surgeon said that often times lettuce is one of the last things people can reintroduce...I didn't try until I was 3 mos. but was fine when I did. Would wait a few weeks and try again 2 ruthie74 and Oliver's Mom reacted to this
MIJourney 490 Posted September 2, 2013 Sometime lettuce could create havoc with my stomach pre-sleeve. Haven't tried it yet post-sleeve. 1 ruthie74 reacted to this
need2bthin! 235 Posted September 2, 2013 Lettuce doesn't bother me as long as I eat the shredded kind.
ChristineR 128 Posted September 2, 2013 Lettuce doesn't sit well with everyone. Just go slow and treat it like you would be introducing new food to a baby. I get the runs whenever I have lettuce so I just avoid it now. 1 ruthie74 reacted to this
ladylaura 77 Posted September 3, 2013 I ask my nutritionist every week if I can have salad again LOL For some reason, I'm CRAVING it! But...like they said above, it's one of the last things introduced I'm 3 months out today, and I still am not cleared for it...
Ms.Yvette 96 Posted September 3, 2013 I'm curious. Is this only with lettuce? Because I love to juice my greens and my fruits in my nutri bullet. Does anyone else juice post op?

I have juiced post-op and had no problems (however, I didn't have problems re-introducing any foods, so I'm not sure I'm a good go-by)
Ms.Yvette 96 Posted September 3, 2013 I have juiced post-op and had no problems (however' date=' I didn't have problems re-introducing any foods, so I'm not sure I'm a good go-by)[/quote'] I'm know everyone is different but for some reason I thought my nut said I wouldn't be able to juice. I hopevi can still juice. Thank you.
FRED1977 186 Posted September 3, 2013 Thanks for starting this topic. PRE op I used to love to eat salad all the time but now I'm not going to try it until I'm further out. I can stand gas pains I don't want to cramp or none of that.

Worth it to ask him specifically....could be the caloric content that juice can have and the low Protein (if you don't add it to what you juice)

Susansoon 48 Posted September 3, 2013 My NUT said that I should avoid lettuce for 9 months to a year. She said treat your stomach like a babies stomach. So three months out your stomach would be like a three month olds.
cindy74 7 Posted September 3, 2013 I have had salad and lettuce in my sandwich and no problem .I guess it depends on the person I had my surgery July,12,2013 I can't live without my green.
Oliver's Mom 258 Posted September 3, 2013 I was told by my nutritionist to start with 'soft' lettuces - I too kept asking about having salads!! So I did, no crunchy lettuce for a while - but now at 9 months out I can easily eat the crunchier type lettuces like iceberg. In fact lettuce is my new best friend. I eat lots of things in it, as I don't eat bread of any kind - my choice. But I do notice that my stomach might gurgle a bit when I do eat lettuce. But no cramps. I think the advice that most everyone has given to wait a bit then try it again is best. Good luck! 1 ruthie74 reacted to this
