Getting banded on Friday 8/6/04

Recommended Posts

I am getting banned in 2 days. I am very excited, but I am having a hard time. My Doctor has me on all Clear Liquids I have been on these for 5 days now ..I am so hungry I am worried how I will stay on liquids after the surgery. Did others stay on liquids before the surgery?

Good luck with your surgery! I know, the liquids get real old real fast, but you'll make it! Just remember, it's only temporary. You will be able to eat real food again. I promise!

I'm now just finishing my last day of Clear Liquids and tomorrow can add milk products. I'm really looking forward to it, although it really wasn't that difficult in terms of feeling hungry. After you get the band, you really won't be that hungry. It's more of the head hunger that you have to deal with. I know things that have triggered me have been watching commercials, and smelling neighbors having BBQ's. I usually go and grab a SF popsicle or find something to do, when I have those triggers.

Try to keep busy, but you will make it and be eating solids again soon! Good luck with your surgery!!:)

I just spoke to the Doctor who will put me under tomorrow I am a little freaked out he told me I will have a breathing tube. I wish he would not have told me that. Is this common? I will have my surgery in dallas. I know it will change my life for the better but I am getting a little nervous. I have not told anyone about what I am doing except my husband. Let me know how everything goes the day after surgery.

I didn't! I had to make myself drink for days after the surgery. It was like magic! That's when the lbs. melted away.

I can't wait. I am really starving tonight. I am fighting myself not to eat a box of m&m's or something. I have been basically on liquids for 6 days. It will be so great not to want to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
