nurseinSD 3 Posted September 2, 2013 What have I done? I have read many articles about the emotional part of WLS but to feel it is so much worse. Do not want to get out of bed, eat, or drink. I need out of this funk. My surgery was 8/22. Any suggestions?
danaevett 179 Posted September 2, 2013 Go see your pcp or surgeon and get on some antidepressants. They will make a world of difference, but do it as soon as possible because it takes a while for the medicine to start working. Hang in there. 1 Arts137 reacted to this
Melissa1234 69 Posted September 2, 2013 I agree, see your dr for help. I suffer from depression and that's no way to live, it sucks. Hope u feel better soon. Just keep reminding yourself this feeling is temporary and you'll get through it with brighter days soon. ((hugs)) feel free to pm me if you want to talk. I'm 1 month pre op so can't really help with the surgery part, just the depression.
patiscuba 28 Posted September 2, 2013 If you need meds, then do it, but you are also very early on this process, and hormones are seriously out of bal. right now. If you just try to understand that, and give it a few days or weeks, you will feel wonderful again. It does take a bit of time, you are on restricted intake, likley not even solids, everything is different, your body is tired and healing from a huge shock. It truly will get way better, and in a short period of time. Antidepressents, work, but do come with issues. hey are extreamly difficult to get off of alot of them. Do the research for yourself, and make a totally informed descision. I may get bashed for this, and sometimes they are the best answer, but i went through withdraw from them, and never again... What i went through while on them, and getting off was way worse then a few weeks of adjustment from my surgery. I tryed to find one thing to look forward to each day, a movie, a trip to the store, a favorite drink, anything, just small goals each day, and in less than a week, i was feeling much better, tired, but better, and, as my weight began to fall, even better. Now, so many of my health issues are compleatly resolved, and I am by no means skinny, but I feel so much better. You will as well. Honestly, one minute at a time. 1 Catherine707 reacted to this
Catherine707 253 Posted September 2, 2013 I agree with Patiscuba, only take the drugs if the problems seem long term. The time post surgery is a roller coaster ride of emotions and it does get better once your body gets rid of all the anesthesia and you are able to consistently get your Water and Protein in each day. Be kind to yourself. Maybe your body needs a bit more time to heal than others. Don't compare your experience to what others say is their experience. Just focus on the positive healthy changes you have made in your life!

Give yourself a break and give yourself time to heal and rest. I felt like a zombie for the first two and a half weeks and now I feel great. My surgery was 07/29. Are you taking B12? It makes a world of difference!
