No drain tube for me, the only thing extra I had was a Picc line, due to me having terrible veins...my doctor didn't want them trying to put in an IV a dozen times the morning of surgery....and that was easy stuff too!

Don't get me wrong I was a nervous wreck about this surgery, I prayed and prayed about it, but after it was all over, it was really a piece of cake!!

Yes that sounds like me. I'm terrified of surgery mostly because i have sleep apnea.

I found out I had sleep apnea 1 week prior to surgery, so yeah I was freaked out!! Remind them when you are going in that you have it!! That's what I did, probably didn't have to, but it eased my mind! I told them as we were going back "just keep me alive, I have babies at home".

I was so worried I wouldn't wake up:(

But I did and here I am:)

Jerseyslved- I feel you on that. Every so often fear creeps in but I quickly dismiss it.

ALittler09- Seems like gas is a common problem. What'd you do to relieve it?

I'm not 6 months out, but the following should help you still. I am 2 1/2 months out & no regrets!!! It was nothing compared to my c-section & I was sooooo freeeeaked out before surgery.

I did not have a drain. Thank goodness!

I used a heating pad as soon as I got into my private room. I rotated it every couple hours from back to front & took GAS Xstrips 2 @ a time . I had no gas pain! I did walk a ton in the hospital . I think that help a lot as well.

Also if you can find chewable multi Vitamin, acid reducer & B12 dissolvables that will beat the crushing of pills. I struggled for two weeks of nasty crushing of pills. A friend of mine told me about the chewables!

Yeah, no need to stock pile. Your taste buds change so be ware!

I also started taking Bioton 2 months prior to surgery & have not lost any hair yet! I am 2 months & 2 weeks out.

I love sugar free popsicles! I had a hard time getting in 64oz of Fluid and I still eat like 4 a day!

I use coco oil every day to help with my skin also.

I hope this helps! Best if luck!

Surgery was a breeze! No gas pain whatsoever. Drain was annoying but not painful. Had very little pain at all. Had dry heaves for about 8 hours one day post op, and that was it. Never lost my hunger, that hasn't been a problem though. LOVE the sleeve!!

ETA: So what I wish I'd known? About the sleeve as an option -- I put off surgery for years cos I wouldn't do band or RnY

Tell me about the drain. What purpose did it serve? How long did you have it? What did it drain into? Did you have to go back to the hospital to have it removed?

I was just approved so I'm still preop but I was told that I would have a drain for 2 days which would suck out any blood or excess Fluid and would let me know if I develop a leak. Some surgeons leave them in longer and some don't use them at all.

I've never heard of a heating pad helping with gas pain. Please explain. I'm assuming you're applying it to your back.

I was sleeved in Mexico so I don't know how it worked for others but I had my drain in for two days. The tube just came out the side of my stomach and drained into a small bulb shaped plastic thingy (sorry don't know the word for that). It wasn't painful or bothersome really. When they took it out I was afraid it was going to hurt but it didn't. They took it out just before I was discharged from the hospital.

The purpose was to drain fluids and blood and to look for drainage related to leaks.

I used a heating pad wherever the pain moved to. Shoulder, back, etc. It helped me a LOT! I don't know why but it did.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
