3 weeks out, sharp pain

Recommended Posts

Over the past 2-3 days i've been experiencing sharp pain on my right side. It's located near an incision, but theres no pain to the touch or redness.

The pain can come at anytime, i can be sitting up, or leaning back, or getting out of a chair, or walking.

(TMI ALERT)

I haven't been doing my regular walking actually, also a little constipated. I can go to the bathroom, it just seems like it's not a "normal" amount. Then again i'm on puree for a few more days.

Could this be gas pain? It's not like the muscle pain i get when sitting up, just using my stomach muscles. It's kinda worrying me since i woke up and it took me a bit to sit up before i said "screw this" and pushed through the pain.

Likely just random...

If it stays for a week, or gets worse or you get a fever, call the doc!

I have been checking my temp, all seems fine at the moment.

Edit: Also..i seem to have gas this morning..

If i try to push, and pass it, the pain comes back. Hmm.

Maybe i'm being paranoid.

I've had the same pain. It feels like a pulled muscle. I was wondering if it was normal as well.

Your gallbladder is on your right side- if it keeps bothering you, you should have that checked out.

This is taken from the book "The Sleeved Life,, A Patient to Patient Guide on Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy" Sounds like what you are experiencing:

At two weeks out, I was still sensitive and when I moved in certain ways I would still get a sharp pain on my right side. In speaking with my surgeon, he explained that where I felt the pain was right in the area where the muscles were separated so the stomach could be pulled out. He said it was a spot at which many of his sleeve patients experienced lingering pain. It will pass. I had to tell myself this fact over and over again some days— it will pass. About two weeks after surgery, it did indeed pass. If you are ever unsure if a pain is normal or not, call your surgeon’s office. Don’t wonder and worry or wait for it to get worse.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
