Newbie, Journey has JUST begun...

Recommended Posts

This is a mother/daughter adventure for me. Myself, being the "daughter". I'm 21 years old, 5.3" @ 255lbs. Goal: 140lbs, by December 2014.

Im on a 6 month plan from my insurance company and had my very first nutritionist appointment last Friday (August 2013).

I'm basically gathering as much information as my brain can handle about the procedure, with the before & afters, and preop/postop diets!

Everyone on this site is so encouraging and helpful! I look forward to seeing everyone's success! :)

Welcome, welcome and Welcome!

You and Mom are among friends here...

One hint...

You WILL lose weight, as fast as your body can if you follow your program.

But that said, you do NOT know how fast you will lose, so

You said "Goal: 140lbs, by December 2014"

You might lose faster AND you might lose slower. Don't add the pressure of a 'date certain', you are in this for the rest of your life!

Welcome!

Since you have a 6 month wait before your surgery the 140 pounds before Dec. 2014 may be pushing it a bit. Not impossible, though. In either case, you will be intensely happy with the weight loss and the clothing change, not to mention the release of energy and easing of movement.

Thank y'all so much! :)

In regards to my goal, that is not a goal I set, but rather my Surgeon. He said that, there should be no problem hitting my desired weight, in that time frame. Because I'm very active, healthy person as is. I have never had high BP, Diabetes, Arthritis or sleep apnea. My only issue is metabolism. He needs me to be MORE active.

My grandad. Has already had the surgery, and my Mother is a month ahead of me. I do not have my surgery date set yet.

I'm just looking forward to renewing my contract with life :) And loving myself again!

How do you start a thread?

Is there a way to follow people you want to see their journey?

@BoD

"How do you start a thread? Is there a way to follow people you want to see their journey?"

I don't know the answer to your question myself, to start a thread for me was easy... I'm on a mobile app. Everything is pretty black and white.

Good luck! Let me know if you figure out how to follow stories! :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
