Found a shake I can tolerate

Recommended Posts

After trying lots of Protein shakes and wasting money...I've found Premier Protien shakes. I purchased them at Sams Club. A box of twelve was $16.29 which comes to about $1.35 per shake. I've only seen chocolate and vanilla. I like them because theyre already mixed. Just store in the fridge or pour over ice and enjoy! They are very smooth and mild. The chocolate is my favorite. It tastes like Yoo-Hoo.

Each 11oz serving has 30 grams Protein and 160 calories.

Yep that is the only shake I can tolerate as well. I only use the chocolate and have it for Breakfast every other day. I have heard people say they like the vanilla and then add sugar free syrups to change the flavor, but I'm not a huge fan of vanilla, so I just stick to what I like. In Oregon at costco a case of the shakes is over $25, so you have a great price too!

Yes, I loved the Premier shakes preop, but can't drink them postop. Tried Muscle Milk today and that one was even worse! Tried a few of the Syntrax drinks and don't like those either. I'm just putting unflavored whey Protein in the Soups that I'm eating(and I use this term loosely lol)!

I am having a difficult time finding shakes without sugar substitutes. Has anyone found something out there that has stevia or some other alternative to sucralose, splenda, etc.?

Before surgery I was using Body Fortress chocolate & Peanut Butter but it has 7 Gms of carbs, more than my doctor allows per serving. We're also not supposed to use pre-mixed Protein Shakes. I got some Body Fortress whey isolate vanilla that has 3 Gms of carbs but it's just too sweet & not a good sweet. I've given up & gone to unflavored Protein Powder & added Crystal Light or Torani SF syrups for flavor. Maybe today I'll try it in my broth.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
