Why in the world would you want this?

I 2nd this sentiment. I revised from a labband to a sleeve 7 weeks ago. I wouldn't recommend the band to anyone.

#1: It has a very high complication rate. Almost 50% of people eventually have a complication ( I actually think it's much higher but those r the official stats) and with only 15% of ur stomach, u can't afford to lose anymore. It took my dr 30 extra minutes to dig my band out of my stomach, leaving damage. It's a good thing he took most of it out!

#2: It's the least productive surgery. If you can't lose with the sleeve, what makes you think a lesser surgery will work better?

#3: You're always chasing the elusive "sweet spot". It took me 4 mths to find it and many times to refind it in the 3 1/2 yrs I had it. It's like a heroin addict...

#4: Not sure a dr would even recommend or do a band over sleeve. most drs are phasing the lapband out (I think it was a fad, like Phen-Fen in the 90's). Altho I've heard of band-over-bypass (Carnie Wilson comes to mind). If they do it with that, there's a possibility they'd do it with the sleeve.

If I were you and the sleeve failed (I guess it happens to sleeves too. It happens to lots of lapbanders. I guess it never dawned on me that it wouldn't work. I mean they took out 85 of my stomach. How can it NOT work?) I would talk to my dr about the RNY. Seems like the logical next step. I didn't want the RNY cuz it seemed too drastic to lose 44 lbs. Not as if taking 85% of my stomach out isn't drastic, but not as drastic, IMHO.

Good luck with ur decision. I loved my band while it was working. Then it wasn't. You have to be a 100% rule follower to have the lapband. If you can't follow every rule to the T, the bands not for you.

Like having a team from MIT fix your computer problems and after they are done have a neighborhood kid on retainer in case anything goes wrong.

Like others said, you don't want to use a less effective tool if the more effective tool doesn't work.

If your sleeve "fails" the next step would be the duodenal switch (DS) surgery for which the sleeve is a first step. But that is drastic, so give your sleeve (and you!) every chance to work.

They would have to use a rubber band! Why would you even consider this with all the complications that your read on here? If it's just a question the complications you read on here would also answer that one.

I would go for a sleeve revision over the lapband. Not sure the lap band is even possible after the surgery.

The options after veg are a duodenal switch or a gastric bypass. Most surgeons are moving away from the LapBand due to the high rate of failure and complications.

My doctor said sleeve to bypass. I would never get a lap band after all the research I've done on them.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
