Just a couple questions on After Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Alicia I'm really not sure if I'm doing this right but anyways I am 18 years old and I had surgery on 20th of aug 2013. At first when coming home from the hospital I felt scared because I didn't know what was going to happen to me but ?.

1. I hate drinking Water lol I know it may sound crazy but what are some other thing besides Water that will keep you hydrated?

2. I feel tired all the time and I don't want to have problems with blood cloggs either. I am drinking Protein shake but nothing is happening. What else can I do?

3. On 5th of Sept 2013 will be my 2week from surgery and what are a list of things you can eat. Like can you guys and woman give me some of the things that you ate. Thanks

4. At week to what kind of exercises can you do? Cause my aunt have a exercise bike and I want to put it to use but my stomach feels a little sore at times. What should I do?

1- I drink tons of crystal light because I don't like plain water either.

2- I'm 8 weeks out and still exhausted! I've heard Vitamin B12 helps

3- it depends what stage your on.. Full liquids? Purée? Soft foods?

4- I wasn't cleared for any exercise, besides walking, until 6 weeks.

Didn't your surgeon give any guidelines to follow? I got a big package of instructions. Week one drink the Water in little sips. Add crystal light or other SF flavor if it helps you drink it. It's most important to stay hydrated! You MUST. Learn to drink your Water and keep it up the rest of your life along with taking Calcium and multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. Week two I went on to "full" liquids which were Protein shakes and thin cream of wheat, cream Soups that sort of thing. Be careful to make the cream of wheat really thin. I made it too thick and it got stuck which was very unpleasant. Week three pureed food, pretty much anything from a blender but stay away from sugar cuz it will make you sick. Week four start slowly and carefully eating regular food in very small amounts. Stay with easily digested food as you are still healing. After about mont three I could eat pretty much anything except high-sugar foods. Only had a problem one time with a turkey burger that got stuck and gave me the slimies. I probably ate it too fast. So when you start incorporating real food measure you portion, 1/2 cup total, and chew very thoroughly! Go slow and enjoy yhe experience of eating. Regarding exercise, again ask your surgical team for guidelines. An exercise bike and/or walking is probably OK but don't over do it. Good luck to you!

I wasn't allowed juice or coffee. It really depends on the surgeon.

Well yes he gave me a packet but I wanted to get other people suggestions because I try to eat Jello and sugar free and it taste so gross. I am some to be on stage 2 this coming up thursday 5 and I watch alot of videos and I see people doing alot of differents things as far as eating and liquid intake. Im sorry Im just emotional you know Im still young and its hard because I just had surgery 20th of Aug Tuesday and I'm just glad that I found people who have been through the same thing. Its hard watching your family members eat food and just the smell of it. Just needed other people thoughts.

I drink lots of crystal light, and I use the Mio Water flavoring. As far as exercise and preventing blood clots, just walk as much as you can. I went for a walk every day, even if it was just around my block a couple times. I didn't do anything more until I was cleared for exercise at 6 weeks. As for what to eat, that all depends on what stage you are in, and your doctor's recommendations. If you tell us what stage you are in (liquid, purée, mushy, etc), we could probably give you some ideas.

I think the first-month post-op is the hardest time emotionally. Your body is healing and you feel hungry but you can't eat anything yet. I really mourned for food at that point. Just hang in there, it gets easier. You are very young and you have great courage to have chosen this surgery at your age. I know I couldn't have done that when I was 18 even though it would have changed the rest of my life in such a positive way.

I was put on full liquids upon leaving the hospital after two nights and was put on soft foods (purees) after one week. My diet was similar to Jessica's but I was allowed to eat eggs cooked any way I wanted them without having to puree them.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
