missybean 40 Posted August 31, 2013 I'm from Rhode Island and the medical I have is neighborhood Health plan. Does anyone else have this insurance and were you or were you not covered?
SuzyB 182 Posted August 31, 2013 You need to check your policy. Many companies offer various levels of coverage. One person may have it fully covered, where the next the employer opted out of barIatric surgery.
ReadyNewM3 112 Posted August 31, 2013 Hi, I live in MA and my insurance is Neighborhood Health Plan with Masshealth...I think it's the same insurance..? Well, if it is, they don't require a 6 months of supervised diet, just the normal requirements.... Bmi of 40 ( no comorbidities), or 35-39 with one comorbidity. You need a referral from your pcp for your first surgeon appointment. ...I'm waiting the insurance approval! If you have any question let me know! Good luck! 1 yesb87 reacted to this
missybean 40 Posted August 31, 2013 Thnk you for the advice. I have researched I am just so nervous they will deny me. That's soo wonderful to hear! Thank u soo much. I was required to do 4 months nutrition appointments was it the same for you?? I found out I had h-pilori after my endoscopy so I have to wait till sept 15 after that I will have to wait for the insurance approval. That's the only thing that scares me is getting denied. missybean 40 Posted August 31, 2013 It's soo nerve racking but I'm prying for you! I wish you the best of luck. Thy havent submitted them yet because I have to go sep 15 to be sure the h-pilory is gone then they will submit them. I can't tell you how many times I've called the insurance company to make sure they cover it lol. I have no co morbids but my bmi is 50. They say it's covered but you know how strict that company can be. How come you have to go twice to the quack?

They are supposed to be strict, but I was reading for a very longggggggg time and its more easy than you think ... If you meet the criteria you will be approved, with your bmi you don't need comorbidities...in my case, my bmi is 35 ( boderline!), and I have diabetes, hbp, and high cholesterol. ...but I'm very nervous because my bmi is low, well we see.....good luck!!!! Btw, its the same insurance that we have???
missybean 40 Posted August 31, 2013 I have read and read too I don't know why my minds so negative towards it because in usually such an optimistic person... I think maybe it's because this is something I want really bad in fact I've never wanted anything more for myself than this. Thank you for your encouragement. So you will be in the clear too with the diabetes and hbp. To help me along my pcp wrote a letter saying I had borderline hbp hopefully that will boost me a bit plus diabetes runs in my family, as well as heart disease. My father just lost both his legs due to diabetes.. I added this to my story too. I do believe it's the same you just have te mass health because it's required right? But the neighborhood health is through the state?
