Good Evening, New to this site, looking to vent!

Recommended Posts

Hi, glad to be here. Went to Psych eval. today went very well. They approved me for surgery, so far everyone has been very supportive. When I left the mental health clinic I stopped by the Bariatic Clinic to drop off some paperwork from my PCP that I just got on Friday, that is where things went down hill. I ask for them to check my file to make sure that everything was in order. The woman that deals with that came from the back with my chart and she acted less that happy to see me. She opened my chart and said that I don't have a lot in there, alot of labs as she fanned though the pages. I ask he she received my records from the the other two doctors I had requested them from, as she fanned through them she said I don't know who these are from. As I looked over the counter I was able to see some of the noted, and realized then that she had received them from my GYN Physician, my previous PCP and there was a letter of surgical clearence from my current HCP and I was delivering my records from my current HCP office. She then said I don't know if you will be approved, I need documentation of at least 9 doctor visits for Weight Related Issues in the last year, I told here she you not find that. She then ask what kind of insurance I had and I told her BCBS PPO. She then changed her mind and said well maybe it was 4 quarterly visits. She said BCBS was getting very touch because everyone and their brother wanted WLS. She never took into consiteration that I have some co-morbidy Osteoarthritis, Hyperlipidemia, borderline hypertension and a 44 BMI. Sorry I carried on but I need to vent, I left there in tears and now have to wait to hear from them.:cry

Awww Cheryl, hang in there!!! It sounds as though maybe the witch behind the desk was having a bad day. I would give it all a chance---if she isn't sure what they require, maybe it is time for you to call your insurance provider, and talk with them. Let them know the woman is not very knowledgable, and ask if there is anything you can do to help. At least then you will know if she gives you faulty info.

Sounds like you have everything in order, and you are right the requirements for BMI do change with co morbidities.

Hang out, vent all you need---we will be here to listen and at least offer a shoulder to cry on!!

Welcome to LBT I look forward to watching your progress!!

Hang in there---it'll all work out!!!

Kat

Take a deep breath and remember she's just a girl behind a desk. She didn'teven know what yoru insurance co. really required, did she?

Keep your head...you're gonna need it to deal with the real decision makers...

never give up hope...and take things one step at a time!

Let us know how it's going, and good luck!

Hi Cheryl :P

Try not to worry. I agree with the others. Sounds like you spoke to someone not really informed. You probably just caught them off guard.

Do you have a contact person at the clinic assigned to dealing with the insurance/approval aspects? I would get in touch with them to make sure everything is running accordingly.

I'm sure everything will be fine! When push comes to shove, I'm sure the clinic will step in and get the info. they need...otherwise...they would be out of business fast.

I am just starting the process, so easy for me to say! Good luck Cherly..sure things will work out fine.

I agree with the others.... call your insurance people and see what EXACTLY they require for predetermination....

I have BCBS (albeit they are all different) but I didn't have to have a required diet, and what I needed is a nutrition eval and a psyc eval......

and as for everybody and there brother is wanting it... well that is because we ARE an OBSESE society!

Cheryl, if you don't hear back from them in a week I would call them again. Keep the faith okay. You are making a life changing decision for yourself. Don't let anyone get in the way of your success. I would continue to follow up with her frequently thereafter. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
