Does the heartburn ever go away?

Recommended Posts

There have been times that I have forgotten to take my Prevacid and I get the worst heartburn after eating. I'm 12 weeks post op. Does it ever go away?

Well... I'm almost done taking mine, and it was a year ago July that I had my surgery. I'm down to every other day with this week being the last week of my prescription. Although I can just buy it over-the-counter if I need it, but the prescription was cheaper. I do still get heartburn from Tomato stuff (like salsa), but I got that pre-surgery too.

As long as I stay clear of acidity foods I don't have a problem! I'm only five wks post-op and I haven't taken anything in a couple of wks.

If you are taking Prevacid every day you should not have heartburn. Talk to your doctor about trying something different or increasing your dose. I take Nexium every day and I have only had heartburn twice, both times I forgot to take my medicine. Also, how you take your PPI matters- my GI doctor told me to take mine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning with plain Water and not eat for 30 minutes.

this is one of the only things that worked out for me....I no longer take Nexium. I have had heartburn only twice since I had the sleeve....

I drink orange juice every night with my Iron pill and it does not bother me.....Yes one thing worked out so far....yeah me..LOL

I haven't had heartburn after eating but if I eat too close to bed I can regurgitate. It's nasty stuff. Has happened 3x now since April. I'm on prilosec every day for a year.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
