I hate to be negative, but I am almost 4 weeks out of surgery and I am having a very difficult time adjusting because everything smells and tastes so differently! It is difficult to have energy and nutrients if you are having a hard time getting these things into your body. My nose feels ultra-sensitive to smell and things that I enjoyed the taste of before make me nautious! I am sticking to mostly Water and ice tea, liquids that have artificial sweetners are soo sweet they make me pucker! I am having a hard time with Protein mixes as well. Pre mixed whey products literally made me sick even if I mixed with sf Powerade or something. Mixes that I used pre-surgery I can no longer get down without gagging. I have been able to sip either chocolate muscle milk or GNC's version and then follow immediately with a sip of water to dilute a little. I even had to switch Vitamins because I couldn't get the flavored chewables down. I am finding that most cooked vegetables are tolerable as is eggs and cottage cheese and some varities of yogurt. I hope that things start to return a little more to normal the more foods that I can continue to introduce back into my diet. And this is kind of gross but I am finding that if I try and eat something or get in a Protein Drink in the morning before I brush my teeth it helps, maybe its because your mouth isn't all clean yet and more susceptible to smells or tastes, gross I know but if it works at this point I am willing to try anything! Good luck. I can say that I was more sensitive just a week ago compared to now, so hang in there it gets a little easier!

I'm 2 weeks out today and I still can't have anything with artificial taste, especially the Protein shakes! Hope this won't last long.

My experience sounds exactly the same as yours so far. I just know it has to get better.

I'm 4 days post op and I feel the same. Nothing tastes right. I used to love plain old Water and I'm having a hard time with even that.

It's my understanding your taste does change after surgery. I'm 3 weeks out. My daughter asked me to make her Peanut Butter Cookies. I love them. When I make them I eat the dough and then the cookies :(. However, I tried a cookie and it tasted yucky to me.

Wow!!! That stinks! I'm almost 3 weeks out and have not experienced any such thing. Our bodies have gone through some tough stuff so I'm thinking it may just take some time for it to get back to a normal functioning state. Good luck to you hope it gets easier for ya!

I am five days out and everything that I can't have sounds good to me. The only thing that I can really drink though is muscle milk light and Jello with no flavored Protein mixed in. Also having no trouble with Water it is just had to get all my liquids in for the day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
