Hi! I'm new here, so exited to have found you all!

I'm 8 days post op. Had my first post op visit today and was down -8 pounds... Supper happy but worrier since I'm not able to fit all the Protein Shakes during the day and the chewable vitamins still make me barf... I know things will get better but I'm worried about loosing my hair since I can't fit all the Protein shakes and I can't hold in the vitamins...... Any suggestions will be awesome..... I can't wait to be able to enjoy a hard boiled egg..

You're stomach is new to you, don't stress over 'fitting' the shakes in. You're healing right now. It'll come in time.

As for the Vitamins, they sell spray vitamins. You just spray under your tongue. Perhaps try that for a few weeks? There's also gummy vitamins.< /p>

I would focus on making sure you get your liquids in. For Vitamins, you might want to try a Gummy Vitamin or liquid vitamins (I used Wellesse liquid vitamins post-op) -- lots of people tolerate them better than chewables.< /p>

Most people aren't hitting their Protein target at 8 days out. Keep working at it and you will get there eventually.

And I don't know if this is bad news or good news but the medical consensus seems to be that vitamins and protein wouldn't save your hair even if you could get them in. It's a result of the surgery itself (shock - telogen effluvium) and the hormonal changes that come right after. If you are going to lose hair, you will. Some people say that Biotin will help with the speed of re-growth, but there isn't anything that will actually stop it falling out in the first place, except luck.

Thank u for the quick reply!!!! Do any of you fight "head hunger"??? I'm not supposed to be hungry but I still feel the sensation in my stomach and its overpowering.... I think it's in my head but I feel it in my stomach :(

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
