100 mile challenge

Well, I figured training for my 100 mile ride (and then actually riding 100 in a day) is probably about the same level of difficulty as running 100 miles in a month. I'm not positive... but that is my guess. It was BRUTAL the last time (plenty of suffering involved) and I expect it to be again. I just wanted to join the fun. You know, team effort. Riding can be a bit solitary.

No, not my own boss but I do work at home and work schedule has some flexibility to it. My typical work day is 12 hours, but about 2-3 hours are in evening to make up for an hour gone mid morning and an hour gone mid afternoon. Remember, my day starts pretty early at either 5am or 6 am.

So today I did all the workouts mentioned above and the running. boy, it has tired me out by this evening. The power cardio this morning was fairly intense. this afternoon, my cross fit trainer also gave me 2 pretty hard weight and body weight WOD pair that included clean overhead lifts, dead lifts and box jumps for first and pull-ups, push-ups and squats for second. Both were cardio intense because they were both AMRAP, pushing for most reps in a given time period. After the second workout @ cross fit, I was dreaming about my refuel bar. :) took an IBU tonight for the first time in a long time I was so achy.

I think I will continue this training push of morning and afternoon cardio and weight workouts along with distributed running segments as it leaves me feeling spent and will give me nice deep sleep. And I am trying to up my athleticism in terms of stamina, power and speed. My trainer showed me the performance metrics of the top 4th and top 48th regional cross fitter and I definitely have room for improvement doing the same qualifying workout when even compared against top 48th. I want to get in top 10 next year.

12 miles as of today. Looking to add another 10 tomorrow along with power cardio (body weight and light weights) in morning and strength training (kettle bell focus) in afternoon at home.

Thanks Laura and tparker, I started walking around the corner and back the day I got home from surgery after 2 days in the hospital. 3 days after surgery I got bored and went to the garage and set up the treadmill (which my wife was not happy about because of my no lifting restriction...oops!!). I started walking in 5 minute intervals at about 2 mph roughly. I would do about 3 or 4 5 minute intervals a day to start. I then moved them to 10 minutes. I also started walking around the warehouse at work the day I went back. The staples have never really been an issue, it has been more about getting tired so easy and fast. I just go til tired and stop but I plan on trying to push myself a little more each day.

This morning I did 5 minutes on the treadmill for about .32 miles and then tried the recumbent bike for the 1st time since surgery and did 1.5 miles with no problems. So I did 1.8 miles so far today which if I am not mistaken puts me around 5 miles total. I have along way to go but will get there. Now time to go get these staples out and have a scrambled egg...lol Have a great day everyone.

Enjoy that scrambled egg. That was my first solid food after surgery and it was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten.

Yup - me too on the scrambled eggs. I remember it was 1 scrambled egg with feta and dill. It was so filling, yet so tasty! Now I eat 2-3 eggs in a meal with a side of 2 turkey links. My favorite weekend Breakfast. Also, you do not necessarily have to think of eggs as a breakfast only meal. They are also a great dinner. The key is to put aside the traditional thoughts of what food to eat at what time of day. Instead, think of refueling your body with food for energy.

5 miles and 1 power cardio so far today. I am finding I am too tired after power cardio in the morning to get back on the treadmill and run so will have to move the time around a bit. Perhaps 2 miles after lunch instead.

This might work for tomorrow (fairly similar to today except strength training at 4:30 pm instead of cross fit session):

5:00am -3 miles (good for waking up with - no caffeine needed!)

9:00am -2 miles

9:30am power cardio

12:30 pm: 2 miles

4pm -2 miles

4:30 pm - cross fit

8 pm -2 miles

Not too sure about the 8 pm run. I do not want running that late to mess with sleep patterns.

2 miles at a time is a nice easy segment to commit to. Trying to target 10 miles a day of these 2-3 mile segments. Enough to get the dopamine receptors firing and a light sweat.

I thought I would be able to "cool down" with a short 2 mile run after working out with power cardio (weight driven cardio -intense), but I utterly lack the motivation and energy to get on the treadmill because the work out session drains me. I am sure if I forced myself onto the treadmill it would be mentally and physically better after a few minutes. It definitely feels like a wall when I tried to think about running following the power cardio this morning. I wanted to, but my body said no too loudly. :)

I hope my eating patterns are planned well enough to support this much daily training (2000-2200 a day). I definitely eat like an athlete should be eating before and after workout sessions and throughout the day, clean and as nutritious as possible. Complex carbs before working out.I am even eating some quick burning carbs after working out along with Protein shake and BCAA drink so I think I am doing that right in order to keep the ebb and flow of energy going throughout the day. Protein, protein and more protein.

Suggestions?

Fiddle, how many miles do you plan on running this month? 300? Can you sustain that for 30 days? Should you?

Good job today!

Really I kinda sucked at exercising early out..

I'm sure that had something to do with my "slow loser" status....

Ok 3 miles today..

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
