What is going on with me?

Recommended Posts

I received a 2nd fill last month and right after receiving the fill, I was hardly able to eat and sometimes drink. Almost everything gave me problems. I called my doctor's office and they read off symptoms of being too full and I only had the one, not being able to get much down. They said to watch my portion sizes really closely, take smaller bites and chew really well and if it didn't stop to come see them. It did stop and everything has been fine until this past weekend. It all started again.

I haven't been able to eat much, I can eat sometimes but only a couple of bites. I get this horrible pain and it takes forever for it to go away. It's not constant but I always feel like something is stuck in my throat and then every little bit, it hurts horribly. And a few times Water has even done it to me.

What is wrong with me? Does it sound like I am infact too full? Don't get me wrong, I love the weight loss but not at the price of being miserable nearly everytime I try to eat. I live over an hour from my surgeon and with the bad weather we are experiencing now, I don't want to chance traveling down there to have him tell me it's my portions. What does everyone think?

Edited to add: When I am able to eat, it takes me hours to get a little bit of food down. I eventually get tired of trying and of the pain and just give up. I was however, able to drink 32 oz. of water within that last couple of hours with no problems.

I haven't had that problem but it does sound to me like you are too full. Try having some removed. I've read here that maybe you should stay on liquids for a couple of days to give your stomach a chance to heal, even warm liquids. I would definitely go to the doctor before the weather does get bad.

Get an unfill. This problem shouldn't go on more than a week or so post fill. Some folks (me included) swell up a little after a fill.

If it *always* takes a long time to eat a little, you are too full.

Remember, your fill level is an art, not a science. You'll have to play around with it before it's juuuust right.

And by being too full, it drives REALLY bad behaviors. My dr says it's like clockwork...too full and people actually gain weight. Counterintuitive, I know. but being too tight drives bad behaviors...like eating mashed potatos all the time instead of solid Protein.

Time to visit the ol' dr I'd say.

Good luck!

That was me!! I had my first fill and I feel I was overfilled and all I ate all week was Cookies, ice cream, and mashed potatoes, because they are all that will go down! I still lost weight (by miracle I suppose)

Thanks everyone for your responses. I assumed I was too full but since this is all fairly new to me, I wanted to get some other opinions as well.

Get an unfill ASAP. you described what I was going through after my last fill too a T. Now I slipped my band. Don't wait, if it hurts you are too tight. I tried to stick it out and look where it landed me!

Definitely sounds like you're too tight. I know the idea of an unfill isn't the most appealing, but trust me - it's better than losing your band. I had to get an unfill last week. Long story short I closed up to the point htat my saliva couldn't pass, and about every 4 - 6 minutes had to go PB ropey saliva or "foam" (think thick Shampoo lather). They told me that most people won't go in for the unfill, and some people endure what I was going through for months. They actually praised me for coming in.

Point being - don't risk it. Being too tight is one of the biggest suspects in slips. We got our bands because they're adjustable, so take advantage of that. Get the unfill. When you're ready, just get some put back in. So so much better than the alternative.

I am going to see my surgeon this afternoon and I am hoping that it is in fact just too full and not slipped. The nurse told me that it could possibly be either but I really feel like it's just too full. Thanks everyone for your help. I have dealt with this long enough, it's certainly not worth putting up with.

I saw my doc this afternoon and I received the wonderful news I was hoping for. My band was just too full and it hadn't slipped. :clap2: He removed .5 cc and I feel great! I was even able to eat a small supper. I am so happy! Thanks everyone for your advice.

Remember I am new here...what does "BP" mean?

Thanks,

Anna in St. Louis:cry

PB: "productive burp" -- what happens when something eaten can't go down due to restriction has to come back up

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
