Aha. Well, some places it's down to $!3,000, but not that I know of in your area.

Tricia,

Aren't there two Dr. Rodriguez's in Mexico doing LapBand? One in Monterrey and one in Ciudad Acuña? Could there have been confusion about which doctor was being discussed? (Or, maybe I'm the only one who thinks there are two Rodriguez's doing this surgery.)

Sue

I believe you are correct, I think someone posted on this board about having a "not so positive" surgery with a Dr. Rodriguez, but it wasn't Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey.

As far as the doctor's office in Georgia being confused over which Rodriguez we had mentioned, they were very clear.

The name "Rodriguez" in Mexico is like the Name "Smith" in the U.S. Very common, so I could see where there might be some confusion.

I guess my whole point was for everyone to do their own research. Take people's opinions for what they are. I might have a great experience where someone else might not. But I like to read as much as I can (pro's and con's) about something as serious as having surgery in a foreign country.

Delara keeping her mouth shut no way. Hey everyone haven't posted in awhile but I see this is still the place to get the info one might need. Like Delarla says we all need to hear the good, bad and ugly. That's why we keep coming back. Everyone's .02 is worth hearing.

I have actually heard of the lady from Dr. Rodriguez's associate patti about bashing Dr. R. I choose to leave it at a misunderstanding. I think in the competative world we are dealing with, there are always going to be seedy people. But to know him is to love him I say!:)

And while I'm butting in, I spoke with an Inamed representative, and they're not very happy at all with Belighter.com. Not at all.

And when I went to Kuri for my port removal, a very popular Belighter employee bashed his name badly and made me feel threatened by going to him. She warned me about his "sterile technique." So I asked Dr. Kuri to his face about his sterile technique (and I was very happy with how I was treated.) I asked him why she would warn me like that, and I could tell he's fed up with them because his simple response was "because they're not making any money off of me."

Sounds like we communicated with the same person. She tried to tell me how Dr. Ponce was "leery" of Dr. Rodriguez...yet Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Ponce published a comparison paper together showing no significant differences between the Inamed and the J&J [not the AMI] swedish band a few years ago.

Interestingly, this was before Ponce became associated with Inamed.

I do not tolerate people like this [the "lady" in question..not Dr. Ponce] for obvious reasons. As a scientist I believe there is a code of ethics that anyone in the sciences or medicine should hold to...this lady has none.

Okay...off my soapbox now...[breathe Alan breathe].

For what it is worth...

we all chose our surgeons for our own reasons. Just because some of us had bad expereinces with some of them does not mean everyone else will. I personally had a great experience with Dr. Ortiz , my surgery was 4 months ago today and I'm down 39.5 pounds and could not be happeir with my progress or my aftercare from Dr. Ortiz, he has been nothing but professional from day one! however there are some who have used Dr. Ortiz and did not have a plesant expereince like I did. It is the same with Kuri, Lopez, Rumbart, Rodriguez, and all the others out there who preform this surgery, some patients will have good experiences and some will not. ...but when someone asks an opinion on certain doctors in Mexico I feel it only wise for those of us who have had first hand expereince with a certain doctor to post our expereinces, good or bad.

Happy Ortiz Patient

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
