Hi Cannie,

Welcome! I can tell you how I prepared for surgery and sleeve-life. I watched as many YouTube videos I could find on the sleeve, joined this forum, and read everything I could get my hands on. When I spoke with my surgeon, he provided me with info I would need to prepare for my pre-op and post-op diet. Search this forum for any and all experiences that interest you. If you can, join the local support groups for sleevers. There are so many different experiences you can learn from.

When the time comes for surgery, make sure you follow your docs instructions to the letter. They are to help you to avoid any complications. You will find that different docs give different instructions, but follow whatever your doc says.

Good luck! And can't wait to see you on the "sleeved side"!

I made my own YouTube channel to help support those who are older. I did find a few who were older but they had their surgeries some time ago so I didn't subscribe to them. The people I've subscribed to are closer to my time frame.

Here are some links I saved:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
