I am exactly 1 week post op... Still having pain, so flipping tired.. My main support person says "you're too far from surgery to still be in this much pain...". Um, no.. I'm hurting, I have a drain that is constantly being tugged on.. PAIN!!! C'mon Mom!! Let me rest.. ugh!

Sorry you're going thru that.

I live alone so slept pretty much the 1st couple of days I was home and then long naps the rest of the week.

Didn't have little ones to take care of, meals to prepare, etc...and didn't have a drain.

Can't imagine having to do that right away.

You need to get some rest to heal which may be hard to do.

Ask that main support person to take over so you can get some needed rest.

Its Fluid that accumulated from swelling in the area of surgery.

Poor thing having to go home with a drain. And for that long- yuck! I'm only 10 days out and I still get tired pretty easily. Saw the doctor at 7 days out and she said that the tiredness is very normal! Your body is trying to heal and you realistically aren't eating that much to power your body.

Now the pain, I was down on my pain by quite a bit by 4-5 days out. However, if you are trying to do too much too soon, it will likely slow down your healing process. I was lucky to just be able to sit at home with basically no responsibilities but myself, so that may be a huge difference.

I had a drain too! It's supposed to be better for you to remove all of the Fluid from healing and it if you have a leak you will know sooner. You will feel a 100 times better when that thing is out. Tuck it into your underwear or a pocket so it's not hanging. You will be okay! You got this! It only gets better from here ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
