6 month follow up today, and questions I should ask?

Recommended Posts

I go for my 6 month follow-up and nutritionist appointment this afternoon. Other than asking about how to stop the weight loss, and about a maintenance plan, is there anything else I should be asking? A couple other things I was considering: asking his opinion on the medical alert bracelets I've seen debated on here at length, and the Restaurant Card that some people's doctors give them enabling them to order off the children's menu or smaller portions at certain restaurants. Any other ideas?

Ask him about straws. And caffeine.

(Since you're already asking about other hotly debated items :) )

Thanks, MIJourney! I'm 4 lbs below my doctor's goal weight of 190. I have people everyday telling me I need to stop losing weight or it will be too much. I don't exactly agree, I'd like to get down to 180, but am happy where I am. I just am not sure how to stop losing at this point. It is still coming off, very slowly, but still coming off.

Just viewed your profile pic ~ wow! What a transformation! You know, I still am shocked at how much younger people look after they've lost weight. I guess I never thought about weight aging people but when I see before & after pics, it's almost like seeing a Mother/daughter or Father/son (in your case) pic! You look awesome! Congratulations!

Yes GamerGirl, I do now! It was only one person's opinion, and everyone else's contradicts hers, so it's all good now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
