Hey everyone, Just wanted to touch base and talk about the awesome experience I had getting my Gastric Sleeve. I a from Newfoundland, Canada, and was sleeved on Feb 26 2013 .The sleeve surgery here is covered by our Gov health care if you don't mind waiting 4-6 years with a wait list for anyone now getting referred. I didn't want to wait that long so I started researching and chatting in different forums. I finally decided on the Mexico Bariatric Centre, made the call, talked to Ron and made the plan. Everything from the time I stepped off the plane in San Diego , Cal was taken care of for me, from the driver to hotel stay, transportation back and forth. Let me tell you about my hospital stay, everything went so smoothly, My surgeon Dr. Louisiana Valenzuela was the best, I had no complications, no pain, only discomfort was from the gas but everyone gets that. The attention you get from the staff is the best. My overhaul experience was wonderful so much so I brought my husband back to the same place to get his sleeve. He was sleeved on the 13th of Aug 2013. Doing wonderful and looking forward to mushies. Thank you Cindy and Christy for all your help in making Johns experience as pleasant as mine was. Thank you to Dr. Valenzuela for your wonder hands and skill taking care of my husband. I cannot express how happy we are and how much our lives have already changed for the good. I recommend this clinic to everyone. If you have any questions please msg me I will be happy to help you out.

Congrats on your sleeve! I have the same surgeon in 2 weeks. I have a dumb question... when they weigh you do they make you take off your clothes or do you weigh in with your clothes on.

Clothes on can be a couple extra pounds on me. lol

Also, did you get the food (broth/etc) and Water (is it bottled?) you needed during your stay, included? Or did you have to buy it from the cafeteria? Did you have to buy your own when you moved to the hotel? Just wondering if I need to bring anything like that.

I didn't get weighed, but they weighed my husband in the hospital gown. As for the broth , you get three free per day. And bottled Water and Popsicles . The broth is kinda bland lol I had some Pks of chicken noodle Soup dry mix I threw in the broth and strained after but you may like it fine. If someone is travelling with you they will have to purchase there own food. There is a cafeteria on the 4 th floor food is cheap and also the first floor . At the hotel the person with you gets a 15% discount on food. Myself just went to the Walmart and picked up a few things to eat in hotel. I did eat at restaurant a few times when with my husband they let me choose from kids menu!

Good luck with your surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
