OK, so I'm about to have a big pity party...would appreciate encouragement  So I was sleeved 7/8/13 and weighed 327 day of surgery. Here I am 7 weeks later and I weigh 295. I feel like I am doing what I am supposed to be doing (just met with my nutritionist and I am hell bent on doing things right) and I just feel like I should be losing like a pound a day and I'm not! The scale barely moves, I just bought a size smaller pants thinking they would fit and they don't. I am back to feeling tired all the time like before surgery. I am also really over throwing up all the time. I don't overeat (I eat slowly and with caution and the right things) and it's like I can't stand the feeling of food in my stomach. Before surgery, it took a lot for me to throw up, now it's like a daily thing...too much Water, throw up.....stomach feels full, throw up. I like how it feels to rid my stomach of food honestly. idk, maybe I just need some kind words right now. Thanks! I just want to be happy and healthy and active and feeling good and just can't seem to get there. Also, I poop ALL THE FREAKING TIME like it's my job. That's getting old too. I guess I'm just kinda mad at my body and wondering if I did the right thing!

from my readings on this and other forums a pound a day is a very aggresive number, the number that seemed more achievable was averaging 3 pounds per week over the first few months. And some unfortunate souls were lower than that. i personally was hoping for four pounds a week for a little while. 32 pound in 7 weeks sound very respectable and commendable.

I understand that with all the work i did i ached to see the results of the effort and also to convince myself that this time it would be different.

you did not mention any exercise and for me that has always been an esential part of losing weight.

Hang in there I haven't been sleeved yet but "they" keep saying it gets better. Try flavored liquids and sip sip don't drink to fast. I'm trying(without much progress). To do this now. I like to drink fast and eat fast so I'm working on it be4 surgery. Just keep up the work ur doing. Try to get fluids in if u can. From what I read on here it really makes a difference. I know it helps me now so I no it'll help po I'm gonna pray for u. ????????????

Your numbers don't show anything to be discouraged about. Your resting metabolic rate should be around 2400 right now, so unless you were working out ridiculously hard and eating nothing, it would be impossible to run a 3500 cal daily deficit to lose 1 pound a day. You also need to realize that your body is periodically going to take some time outs to do some readjustments throughout the process. 32 pounds in 7 weeks is actually really good! I was at my 1 month post op and the nurse totally checked me for pooh-poohing that I'd only lost 16. Hang in there, you are doing the right things, the weight will come off. We really have a big tendency to be too hard on ourselves and expect too much, so be kind to yourself and take heart in the knowledge that you are doing the right things.

As far as the vomiting and having a hard time getting down food and Fluid goes... if you haven't called your surgeons office yet, I would really encourage you to do that. You really want to know if there is something creating this situation, particularly this far out, and if you continue to struggle with fluids in particular, you are eventually likely to end up with dehydration that will need to be treated. I'm at 5 weeks and just found out today that my difficulty getting any kind of volume of fluid/food down without nausea and the resulting dehydration is caused by a kink in my stomach. I'm going in for an endoscopy tomorrow, doc believes passing the scope through should straighten it out and solve the problem. Also had to get a couple liters of IV fluids.

Good luck! You are doing great and I hope that you are able to determine and resolve the cause of your symptoms!

Oh wow, expecting to lose a pound a day sounds like a set up for disappointment. That is nearly impossible. Sure, overall if you do some math you may find an average of a pound a day on the fastest losers, but normally it just doesn't work that way.

I spent weeks 2-10 in a stall. NO WEIGHT LOSS! It wasn't until about week 6-7 that I even started losing inches. So to say I was frustrated is an understatement.

As far as the vomiting, I still vomit often at 11 weeks. Some foods like me one day and the next they hate me. It really is nothing we can put our finger on. I just make sure to get my daily 64 oz of Water and Protein so ensure I'm doing my part.

Now what really has me concerned is your liking to feel your stomach emptying. This concerns me because it sounds like you're getting yourself in a position of getting bulimic. Don't allow yourself to be fascinated with vomiting.

It is very common after WLS to transfer into other types of food/weight issues. You don't want to do all this to get healthy just to find yourself enjoying the vomiting so much you become bulimic. Maybe I'm reaching here, but it is so very possible.

maybe the problem is all the throwing up? i have not had a stall yet since surgery but when i did medifast i noticed that on days that i did not eat as much as i was supposed to i would stop losing. its weird but you cant cut out calories too much or you will go into starvation mode and your body will hold onto all the calories you put it. i agree eating is not as great as it used to be, but i think thats the point isnt it?

I think, for me, one of the toughest things was to change how I ate. To get rid of what you are describing, I had to slow waaaaay down. Depending on what it was, it could take me 10 minutes to eat 3 bites. I would chew my food to what I felt was a ridiculous consistency (at least 40 chews) and I would put my utensil down in between bites (something I still do). I would not take another bite until I had swallowed and felt the food 'settle' in my stomach. This gave me time to evaluate how I felt.

I used to just inhale my food, swallowing before I had thoroughly chewed and taking another bite before the last bite had been swallowed. When I drank liquids, it was also large and fast. I could drink a 12 glass of Water in a couple seconds. My kids loved watching me do it.

I guess the bottom line is I had to change how I ate, not just what I was eating. You have to remember the mechanical part of the stomach has been reduced GREATLY. It cannot process food partially chewed like it used to. It will complain.

Perhaps give this a try.

I was sleeved on 7/19 and was 319 lbs that morning. I think I am around 300 now, but not sure exactly as I hid my scale in an inconvenient place b/c I was tired of feeling frustrated. I can tell I feel a lot smaller and am looking different to myself. I definitely feel less frustrated not weighing in. Seeing a number higher than I expected was making me feel like I was failing.

I feel your frustration! I was sleeved on July 31st. Not sure how much I've lost, but 6 weeks out tomorrow, I think somewhere between 35 and 40. I'm sorry you're feeling sick so much. I have been lucky that way. I'm just incredibly sad when I eat. I look at foods I love and then am only able to eat a few bites before I'm full and start to feel sick. Some days I just don't want to eat at all. I try to walk around the lake (2.2 miles) on days when the heat allows. It's been over 90 degrees here for a couple weeks and hit 104 yesterday! I don't really have any friends or anyone to talk to about how emotional I feel since I can't eat a normal meal like normal people. I feel really lonely. I hope you start feeling better. Does doc know you are having so much problems with pukes and poops? I went through the diarreah and have had one bout of Constipation. I guess we should just realize it's early yet. Hopefully, a year from now, we will be thin and happy we did it. I have had my regrets on more than one occasion! It sure isn't easy learning how to eat like a baby when I've spent my life eating all I wanted. That got me into this mess in the first place!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
