Feeling a bit defeated

Recommended Posts

I'm a month and 4 days out. I've been on the soft food diet(only avoiding certain veggies and fruits, rice/pasta) since the end of week two per my doctor. I was a vegetarian before surgery but have been trying to eat meat since I've been able to after to get my Protein. However, it all makes me vomit(dump if you ask me!). Does anyone have this issue? It is a little depressing!! I just found a Protein Powder I can tolerate in a smoothie with fruit but it takes me all day to drink it. I do it with greek yogurt so my smoothie has at the least 68g protein. I'd still like to be able to eat something other than yogurt, string cheese, and potatoes.

refried Beans are a good source of Protein. Mix some sour cream into it.

If the smoothie takes you all day, imo that is fine as you can only absorb I think around 20-30 grams at time so it would be a good thing that it takes you so long.

I agree with Suzy, you would really want to drink it in portions. You want to get about 60-80 grams of Protein all day so having it all at once will leave you hungry later.

Why don't you try eggs, tofu, lentils, chickpeas, hummus etc? Good sources of protein, and can all be cooked soft.

eggs were fine for me but Im only allowed 3-4 whole eggs per week and I don't like whites. Beans are a great source but I worry about the carbs . I guess I should stop worrying about those though since I cant even eat a whole serving.

I wouldn't worry about it. I can eat about 1/4 c of them puréed, and that's not even 10 gms of carbs really. Also the babybel light cheeses taste and feel different to the string cheese and that might be a nice break.

Someone had also suggested to me putting in Protein powder into thickish lentil Soups when they were warm.

I'm a vegetarian and so are some other people here, and you have lots of options if you don't want to eat meat. Have you tried the Morningstar "meat"balls or Breakfast sausage? Also, I eat a lot of Greek yogurt and low-fat cheese.< /p>

I havent been able to find their brand meat balls anymore. They were my fav too! The sausage is ok but killer heartburn. I do fairly well with the wham too. I guess Im stuck in a rut And since Ive vomited enough recently Im scared to try anything because it sucks. My 2 and 4 year old now act like they are vomiting LOL. Thank you all :)

are you taking a gastro-protective agent (PPI) like Prilosec? I didn't need one before surgery but definitely do now. I always know if I forget it bc the heartburn comes even when drinking Water.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
