Crab cakes as sliders?

Recommended Posts

You are still early enough out that you won't fully realize your restriction for a bit. You may feel some things now but as you really progress to all foods' date=' you will feel it. That's why it's important to measure especially in the beginning. I believe what you may have felt with that food is pretty normal. I can eat a 3-4 oz piece of Tilapia but just less than 3 oz of chicken and 2 oz of steak. You will feel it more when you are further out.

It really gets so much better and you will love it the further out you get![/quote']

Thank you for the reassurance. I actually love, love, love my sleeve already. Never want to undermine her. :)

I thought after all these years of measuring food, I could eyeball it a bit on this trip, but what I have learned is that I need to get a little portable scale and take it with me on trips. I can't believe I texted a pic of the crab cake to my husband and to puresouthernsoul to ask them how big they thought it was! I :) I need to carry a scale.

Okay so they're not a slider, and I did the right thing having just one! Phew.

Okay I know what happened. I'm posting my learning to share with you guys. I ordered a crab cake again tonight and felt the restriction after 2 oz. You want to know the difference? Two words.

Mindful eating.

It was driving me nuts so I thought about what happened yesterday. How could I feel the restriction with everything except crab cakes??

Yesterday I ate while on the phone, as I was presenting to 2 clients during a 2-hour meeting. I didn't think I was doing this, but I suspect I ate little bites and continued potentially for well over an hour in little bits and bobs. In retrospect, I could only eat while they were asking questions, so it had to have been spread out.

Tonight I went out for dinner, took small bits, chewed carefully, but paid attention to the food, even though we were chatting. And stopped 20 mins into it because I felt the restriction.

My doctor's orders were clear. Eat for 30 mins then stop. Do not graze. Everyone on this forum said, do not graze. Welp, apparently I grazed.

Who knew?

Yet another habit to change that I took for granted. Can not try to eat lunch while on a phone meeting where you are the lead presenter.

Crab cakes are not a slider for me, either! Do keep in mind that different foods "slide" for some and not for others. :)

Yes, mindful eating is important. I either take 15 minutes to eat or an hour. It's really hard to find that sweet spot. I, too, can eat a lot more over an hour. Unfortunately, it's the only way I can get to the halfway mark on my daily Protein. I am afraid of making this a habit so...

Ugh. Such a fine line!

I'm feeling in the same boat. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of going too low in calories and Protein for too long, so I've been breaking some of the rules, knowing that I need to think of it as a temporary action to address a difficulty until I can consume appropriate amounts. I tend to serve myself an appropriate serving size for a meal and it just takes however long it takes. I'm hoping not to feel like I need to do this for more than a few more weeks. We'll just have to see. I am doing it in a planned and conscious way, with the full understanding that it won't be appropriate behavior as I progress, so I'm not terribly concerned that it's going to turn into uncontrolled, unconscious eating. It is something I will have to carefully monitor, however.

Daydra could yours be because of your recent complication? I can see where you'd have to do that if you couldn't eat or drink much of anything.

Yep, totally possible, actually likely. So many others seem to feel that they don't seem to have problems getting in fluids. My recovery went so easy and well that I feel like I "should" expect to be more in that boat, save my scar tissue not playing fair. I expect that as my kink and twist (shouldn't there be a 50's dance move named after that???) resolves, my need to adjust to it should be eliminated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
